My son has been there but I have not had a chance to. According to my son it is quite a workout just dragging the heavy weight back across the river all day and then when you catch one it gets a whole lot tougher.
Nice catch and hope you get more. Jim

Looks like the Yellowstone is rolling pretty good! Great score on the "Paddlefish"!!! Being Montana raised our friends "Paddlefished" a lot and so does my brother Kay... Ate the heck out of that fish as a kid,now I can't stand it-LOL...Funny how things change.. Lots of Montana moss agates in that area too..Thumbs up

Hoping the rest of the party tags out this evening before we pack it all up and leave tomorrow. I will post pictures of stones once I get out of the trunk and cleaned up at home. I have seen alot of Moss agates and now I will actually have the time to carry them back to the car all the wood was small enough to put in the pants but the moss I want is definately gonna be cut worthy when picked up! cheers

Congrats on a dandy
Lots of them here in Missouri. A new state record 140 pound, 9 ounce Spoonie was caught this year about 5 miles as the crow flies from my house. Fun (and a lot of work) to catch, but they aren't very good eating.

Plus you better get a pro to fillet it out for ya' to,unless you know your business-the white meat is eaten, the red meat is disposed (poison)..........Always thought that odd.......Of course the eggs are sold for caviar..

I had the people on site cut it up but did recognize some red and brown meat that will definately get cut off! Not sure as to what way we will decide to cook/fryģbake it but did get a recipe book as well for paddlefish. I was pretty upset coming back because it rained enough to where I couldnt get to the nice cutting stones that I had located. I do have some petwood though that when I get them cleaned up i will post pics. Makes me wanna take a weekend trip up without so many people to do nothing but hound around! Some great areas up there that kept screaming at me!

Not sure as to what way we will decide to cook/fryģbake it but did get a recipe book as well for paddlefish. The best way all of us have found is remove the red meat and cut the white meat in 1 inch cubes. Dip in egg/milk mixture, then roll in breading of your choice such as Andys, or make your own. deep fry hot and fast and eat while hot. after it cools off it becomes somewhat gelatinous and very unappetizing the eggs can't be sold here in Missouri and very few guys save them.

I donated my eggs for them to cut it up. I am hoping it goes to preserving them as well as for hatcheries. I read an article that they are now in 22 states and working on introducing them back to native waters thanks for the tips on cooking them though I have read alot of bad reviews of there taste but am still quite curious!

I read an article that they are now in 22 states and working on introducing them back to native waters thanks for the tips on cooking them though I have read alot of bad reviews of there taste but am still quite curious! Some guys soak the chunks overnight in salty water and some soak in milk. even had one guy swear that soaking in diluted vinegar made it more palatable. the eggs can not be given away here, so most get tossed in the lake when the fish is cleaned. Our conservation dept sets nets at the beginning of the run and strips the females eggs for hatching. natural spawn doesn't produce but precious few hatchlings, so the majority of ours are stocked as fingerlings three years ago I about soiled myself while fishing from the boat. I was letting the wind drift me along fishing for crappie when I got a bit close to shore. I engaged the trolling motor and a male about 3 feet long shot straight up out of the water and almost landed in the boat I guess he was either hit by the prop or was so close it scared him which in turn most certainly scared me!

Hahaha now thats some excitement right there! Mustve done something to get it to hop out of the water like that! Im not a greasy fish fan either. Id take a dozen pan size brooks over a 15 lb. lake trout any day but pretty cool saying ive snagged atleast one in my life! Thanks for the info, im going to dice em up and batter em. At worst theyll be fed to and im sure enjoyed by some dogs.

I was there a few years back but wasn't fishing. Those are some ugly looking fish for sure. Lots of regulations to follow but must be worth it because a lot of people fish for them each year. I was at Intake near Glendive looking for rocks and was fascinated watching the people trying to land one of those beasties.
