Idocrase is a metamorphic vesuvianite material and is natural. Helenite is basically man made glass, melted ash from Mt. St. Helens....Mel

I shaped it into a heart, made a Victorian style bezel and open back mount with heart cutout all in sterling. It came out pretty good, but I'm not as good as you at making hearts I'll try to get a pic later before i deliver it

See a lot of Helenite around here,as said it's man made and not worth the price they are asking for it.... tell me about it that happens with a lot of stuff unfortunately and on top of that, one has to deal with fake things all the time. I don't know how some folks sleep at night after ripping off unsuspecting folks with fake turquoise, nickel silver and the list goes on and on. Can't tell you how many folks come in to my shop with a piece of costume jewelry for repair or appraisal and were told the "German silver" is just another description for Sterling and it's the same thing Don't even get me started on "White Buffalo Turquoise" GRRRR!

Yep, that same melted volcanic ash technique is often used to fake tektites too. Since tektites are just basically earth born glass blown into space and falling back to earth, they are mainly just blackish green to bright green glass, exactly the same thing you get with melted volcanic ash. I've often wondered what percentage of the Bedesites, moldavites etc are fake...Mel
