During lunch yesterday, I decided to take a trip to Lake Superior for some rock collecting. I arrived in Grand Marais this afternoon and hit the beach. It was cold and rainy at times, but I had a great time. I met a guy on the beach who is an experienced Laker hunter. We hunted together for over an hour and he gave me some really great tips. I found a few agates, but nothing spectacular. Of course, my bucket had a bunch of unakite too. My favorite so far: An agate: My bucket: I'll post more, maybe tomorrow. I can't get pictures off my camera right now, so a more complete trip report will have to wait until I get home. It's supposed to be a high temp of about 57 here tomorrow, dropping to the forties by 3:00 pm. The lake might freeze.

You said "During lunch yesterday I decided to take a trip..."; man, you must get really long lunches. Nice bunch of raw material, we like your favorite one too. Larry

Ok, here's the day two report. It rained early this morning while I was still in the tent, but it hasn't rained since. It was pretty cold though. I wore a t-shirt, sweatshirt, jacket, and an insulated rain coat over that. I went to the first beach and found small agate and a bunch of unakite. There were at least three foot waves on Lake Superior and I saw a kayaker paddle by. I came back to the campground, ate lunch and went to a different beach where I saw the same kayaker. This time he beached the boat for a break right in front of me and we chatted for a while. He was making a trip from Munising to Sault Ste. Marie. He sure picked a chilly time to do it. I found another agate on this beach that was fairly good sized. Any idea what type of laker this is? I just got done listening to a talk about a sled dog race that takes place here in January. I almost froze to death before it was over. I can't imagine what this place is like in January. It's supposed to get down to 30 tonight and I'm in a tent. This may be my last post ever.

Geez, you are hard core to tent camp in that weather. Sure hope you survive.
