I wish I lived in Northen Michigan. Does your mom know that you do drugs!? NO ONE that lives south of the Mason Dixon Line wishes that they lived in northern Michigan! That's one of those "nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there" things. ** unless you don't know any better!

Is it the cold weather? I can handle any climate, perhaps? I've lived by the lake Erie shore in December 2013, snow drifts to above my knees. But not all year round! No, no, no.

According to the link, it's in Minnesota. I live in the northern part of the lower peninsula, but it's not doing me much good for agate days. It's too cold for you here, captbob? Do you realize that we can walk on water in this state? We have four seasons instead of one, too. We have a whole lot better selection of rock than in Florida too. For several months we can even pry them out of the ground! It's a great place to live.

I will be there! More lake Superior Agates here than probably anywhere else.

I have been to it and it is a joke. Lots of people who think they have gold when much of it is 2nd rate. High prices. A-holes everywhere.
The stampede is supposed to be for the kids, but there are more adults pushing kids around than you would believe. If I had it off and had nothing better to do, I might drive up and look around but other than that, I just stay away from it. I would never waste my vacation days on it again.

Did you ever try Kentucky or Ohio, Mark K?

The only hounding I have done in KY was around Ft Campbell. Fossils only for the most part. Never stepped foot in OH.

It is too bad you had a bad experience. I don't buy the over priced stuff and don't deal with the A-holes. I have always had a good time and some years have made some very good buys. Sometimes I go home with not much but it is still nice to look at rocks, especially very spendy LSA's. Never buy the LSA's there because I think they are over priced but like to see what a person may find if they are lucky. I have never figured out how a LSA is really valued....................MrP

It is a great show. Inside the school the gymnasium and at least one hallway will be full of dealers. Outside the parking lot is full of tailgate sellers. I have attended for several years and have met many wonderful people. There are some world class agates and they are priced accordingly. I have seen a number of dealers that have given freebies to the kids. I have bought many kinds of rough there and equipment, I don't buy agates normally but love to hunt for them. You will also find lesser agates. As far as price goes there is no rule as to how to set a price. But if the sellers price too high they won't sell much, too low and they lose their profits. If I lived further away I would certainly find a hotel as near as I could so I could attend the show. Hope to see a few RTH members there.

DirtCleaner Hope to see you there. It is fun to look at all LSA's that a person could never afford. I wish I knew how to value them. I have found many LSA's but never a very large one.
I park on the North entrance. We may have the motorhome but for sure the gray lifted Rubicon. If anybody sees me say HI.........................MrP

A few pics of what I bought.
Yes 1Mark K was right. There was a jerk or two there and many things were over priced. That being said I feel I got some real bargains but may have over paid for some other things. If you find something you want and somebody else has it you must decide how bad you want it. If the wife wants it price doesn't matter. I have a wife and two daughters that love my jewelry so I decide what price I am willing to pay to make them happy........................MrP

That is one hell of a chunk of fordite. Did you have to mortgage your house to get it?

That's exactly what I thought! Never seen a single piece so large, not even in a photo. Got yourself some sweet finds there, MrP.

rockpickerforever & Mark K The price on the fordite wasn't too bad and I think it is because of the shape of it. It is 2.5lbs so I should be able to get a cab or two out of it. My wife was the one that found it and said 'buy it'!
The piece I like the best is the 7lb 14oz chunk of natural silver from Mohawk, Mi. I have no real idea of what the make up of it is but when you have something the size of a coke can that weights that much it has to be a dense heavy metal...........................MrP

MrP , 1Mark is someone else, someone that has been an RTH member since 2004 (although he has not logged in since 2009). For Mark K, type in @ foxtail (no space in that), and he'll come up. That's what happens when people change their name, there are a few of them. You can see their real screen name either by hovering over their name with the mouse, or click on their name, and go to their profile page. You can find it there. That Fordite was a great find, hope you took your wife out to dinner or somethin'.
