Howdy All- I picked this unit up at an estate sale, needed a good cleaning but the price was right. I have disassembled the entire unit, cleaned, sandblasted and powdercoated almost everything, inside and out. Arbor got 3 coats of hammertone, and 2 clear coats. It has a Poly D4 arbor, and the wheels have plenty of life left. They are, from left to right, a 260 mesh Crystallite Lap, followed by a 100 mesh Crystalring. On the right side, there's a 360 mesh crystalring, with a 1200 mesh 5" dish lap at the end. It also has a 1/4"/20 female end piece, accessory ready. The motor is a Dayton 1/3hp, 4amp, and it's near pristine. The irrigation system is better than any arbor I've seen, water delivered to just the right spot with excellant sparay contraol. It's really compact I'd be interested in finding out the manufacturer, along with some idea of it's value, now in like new condition. Thanks looking and for your thoughts. Some before photos And Now-

Top notch job and the refurb. I would like to see how the water system looks under the hood where it hits the wheels. I have a similar system on my genie and the nozzles that drip the water get clogged sometimes.

I can't see up in there w/o disassembly, but I can tell you the water lines are perfectly directed to the center of each wheel. The water for the sides is also channeled very well, and inside the housing, small pieces of sheet rubber are contact cemented to dampen splash and guide flow.If ever there were a cabber setup to use indoors where mess is a concern, this is it. Clogged nozzles could be cleared easily w/ a pipe cleaner, if done on a regular basis.

Mine is setup using t-fittings at the wheels. the short leg goes through my hood and connects to the water line and the long leg has the ends plugged and has really small holes drilled every 1/8" to spread the water flow to the entire wheel. Been using it a few years that way and really like it. Chuck

I've seen a unit like that years ago, but I'll be damned if I can remember who made them. If I have time, I'll look through some old Lapidary Journals from the 50's & 60's to see if I can find it.

Hey Chuck, thanks for the idea on spreading the water. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks ?

Thanks for the kudos on the refurb, Paul & Chuck, the guy that sandblasted and powdercoated it deserves most of the credit.

I took another look and the water delivery to the end laps and that setup is unique and ingenious.

Good lookin' machine, unclesoska! Excellent refurb! Before the refurb, was there a place for a water system on top of the unit, opposite side of the motor? Lortone? Found a "Max Pro" on Pearson's website. www.pearsons-uslj.com/cabbing_machines.htmNot sure who manufactured the unit, but hope you enjoy using it!

Thanks gingerkid, yes, I would say it once had a water resevoir, but alas it has no more. Very different from Maxpro, Lortone WISHES they made a cabber this nice. Not planning on using it, gonna start on Craigslist soon, probably ask $600. for it.

ROFL @ your comment about Lortone, unclesoska! Maybe one of the Raytech Gem Maker models?

Lets bump this one back up.
With the motor on top, and the poly arbor suspended upside down inside, I'd say your machine was built by Crown Mfg. back in the late 60's to early 70's. I have an almost identical machine on its way to me right now. The only difference being mine is an 8" model with the Poly D14 arbor. The one I got is in nearly unused condition, and still has the Crown decal on top of the hood.
The value ? Well, I gave $1,000.00 for mine, along with a Crown bead mill, a Loretone 6" saw / cabber combo, a dop pot, and a box full of 6" & 8" aluminum sanding discs, SC cloth discs to fit them, a couple of bump wheels, bunches of odds & ends and a cab preformer.
With the beautiful cleanup & replumbing you did, I wouldn't take a cent less than $400.00 for your machine. They just don't make them that good anymore.
