I had a good day at the wheels today. I cabbed up the last of the slab of the excellent pet wood I've been playing with. Did battle with jade, still trying to get the hang of that one. Fought with some jasper I found that I had high hopes for but it undercuts like crazy and little rusty vugs are in it. Heres a few pics. Comments/criticism welcome, I'm still learning. Here's the whole batch: details of the wood, I'm really happy how they turned out: Cool jasper with hematite(?) - this was a pain Detail on the brown jasper Jade. It wasn't till I was well into the polishing when I noticed a couple of lines of a different material going though it. That and the pock marks, I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong with it, or maybe it's just the material? Brown Jade. Also with the small pits. Neat stuff, I just cabbed a tiny bit to get a feel for it. need to figure out where I'm putting those pits in. Silver ore. This stuff undercut like crazy. Was loath to try and get it all even as fast as the silver was getting ground away. Last but not least the epidosite. Love this stuff.

Fantastic polish on all of them! And I agree, the grain detail on that pet wood is particularly yummy.

I gave up on Jade but the old timers say u can try to hard for a shine. They say u don't need really fine diamond. That you should shine on the lower wheels. I have never gotten Jade to shine good. Good luck to you on it cause its beautiful stuff! Maybe Wampidy will weigh in n help.

Well it's good to know I'm not the only one who has done battle with jade... I've got 5 or 6 nice slabs of different jade colors I'm gonna keep trying until I figure it out or run out of material :-)

Those are some great pet wood cabs. I like the epidosite too.

Very nice! I love the wood! I have been practicing with jade. It is definitely a challenge to polish and they are not all the same by a long shot.
