I made this using 24ga brass sheet and a star fold.

Could you tell me the size and the gauge? I am wondering if small sterling silver ones would be too expensive to make a few.

Could you tell me the size and the gauge? I am wondering if small sterling silver ones would be too expensive to make a few. I think it was a 2x2 inch square, 24 gauge sheet. I think 1x1 would be doable too. Be careful annealing sterling, it likes to fuse together. Fine silver would work nicely. The bail is soldered on to the back.

I'm sort of a packrat when it comes to shiny brass. Like that ornament lot, good idea.

Thanks, Don . It's too late for this year, but maybe next year I can do a few for Christmas ornaments and gifts. Fine silver would be awesome.

Annealing temperature for silver is when the color reaches a dull red and that is best viewed in a dim-lit room. If it is bright / lit then annealing temperature will be invisible. This should fall way short of fusing. It's a lovely ornament, beautifully folded. Merry Christmas btw!

Don, I meant to ask you? I thought it was fine silver that fused and not sterling. Ok I know I have fused jump rings out of fine silver quite easy but solder is needed for sterling. I figure over heating any metal for to long is going to cause problems isn't it. I was watching Soham Harrison last night and he was annealing fine silver in about 4 to 5 seconds, really really fast I thought. It was fine silver though. I love his tutes, he is down to earth IMHO.
