Despite the recent intense rains in SoCal the last couple of weeks, my garden has decided to bear fruit and start flowers anyway ... my total lack of attention to it notwithstanding. Orchids are sending up flower sprays: Dwarf Guava: These are sweet but they have seeds. Dwarf Bananas: Tangerine: This one came with the house and has been a consistent producer for us. The fruit of this one is really sweet (as in you'll gain weight from the amount of sugar in them). Over the new years weekend, we spent some time down in Palm Desert with some friends and did some outdoor activities out in the desert. Nathaniel probably cycled 300 rounds that day. Nothing to do with rock hounding ... Paul

It's nice to see some green. It's all white here in northern Michigan.
You might be able to grow fruit and wear shorts this time of year, but do you have the possibility of a snow day on Monday? We have snow predicted for Sunday night, and all the teachers and students will be praying for snow.

Hi Rob, we're along the coast so no snow, only rain. Lots. And mudslides, if you're "lucky". The Sierras and local San Gabriel mountains have been getting lots of snow, though. We've been praying for rain as this CA drought is really bad.

My wife is filipina and she was way jealous when she seen your pics. She said how do we live like this and not be able to grow guava and banana. I told her we were just lucky I guess.

Super nice garden there! Makes me miss the citrus and tropical things in California

The garden is a paradise Paul. Plantains or bananas ? Thanks, James. Dwarf bananas similar to the "apple bananas" my grandfather grew on his farm in Hawaii. Grows like weeds and I regularly have to thin them out or they crowd and don't grow well. I have about four "mature" plants with about 10-15 "babies" growing up around the stumps. I keep thinning those out as well.

Yes they can be aggressive, bit give in quickly to a machete. Aggressive plants make successful gardens.

Nice looking garden, Paul. Different fruits in your area than ours, that's for sure. Good to see you got the boys out doing some fun stuff, too. Palm Desert, eh? We'll be in that general area in a couple of weeks.
