I went to get my driver's license renewed today...they (why is that plural?) expired last month. The computer at the probate office said I wasn't who I thought I was. Honestly, I really thought I was. The pictures didn't match (looked like me in both of them...to me). Took a half dozen different pictures...it still said I wasn't who I thought I was. I'm having an identity crisis. The boss lady was at lunch so the nice lady told me to come back in a few minutes. Since the boss lady was at lunch, I decided to go on to the sheriff's office and get my pistol permit. Seems I walked in, handed the lady my "expired" driver's license...she asked me how many years I wanted it for...I could choose from one to five years @ $20 a year. I opted for three years...that'll get us two years into the next president's administration and we'll see how things are going then. She told me to take my cap off, took a picture of me, took my money, and handed me a nice, shiny, new pistol permit. I then went back to the probate office and the boss lady had come in. In just a minute she slapped the computer, over-ruled it, and made it give me a driver's license. She knew me...well, I guess she did, at least I thought she knew who I thought I was...or maybe she just thought she knew who I thought I was...pictures don't lie...do they? Anyhow... The irony...I could become legal to carry a lethal weapon but because I wasn't who I thought I was I couldn't legally drive. Thus, no drive-bys by me. Ah well, all's well, now, but...I'm still confused....will I know the way home...will my dog know me went I get there (if I find it)? Will I recognize my toothbrush? Am I really me? Am I really Intheswamp...or, or, or....could I be on a hill? ?

Have had similar problems myself, I think that mine were caused by the state filling minority quotas rather than hiring capable people with computer experience !

Don't know where you live, but even in Missouri you must take and pass a concealed carry course and present a valid (read, unexpired;-) drivers license at the Sheriff's office to get a carry permit. Ours is good for 5 years with no shorter or longer term option and is a flat $100

Indiana handgun permit: $100, good for life. The legislature is currently debating removal of the permit requirement altogether.

Here in Mn if you have lost your license you have to show two forms of picture id to get a new one. So if you have a birth certificate and passport they still don't think you are who you say you are but if you had a driver license with a pic. on it you would be able to then get your lost drivers license because you have 2 picture ids and you are who you are. Pistol permits you have to go a class then its at the whim of the local sheriff.

Man DMV is always a hoot, though in Texas, it's fast and easy. Remember the last time I went to DMV back in Commiefornia. They made me take a whole day off work and when I went in I had to print my name on a list and wait till called upon. Well, I waited and waited and never heard my name called. Finally, some hours later I got mad and went up to the counter to talk with some gal of unidentifiable ethnicity. She informed me my name had been called. I said no it had not as I was listening. She said she called it herself. I said show me my name on the list and she did. I then asked her to say my name. Gulldanged marble mouthed lower boogerstaniapaki WTF-ilvanian never even came close to pronouncing my name, which I might add, is easy to say in a manner recognizable in English. Then since I had changed my beard, her myoptic gulldanged eyes couldn't seem to wrap themselves around my new look either. Whole day shot by the time I was done. What a clusterf**k....Mel
