We went there in a Ford Taurus years ago shortly after the CFMS got it. It was pretty dicey some of the time, especially driving through dry creek beds.
Take pictures!
Enjoy!

I wish we could make it but we are headed down tomorrow for the Powwow and BBQ and can't stay longer than the weekend.
@shotgunner - with all the rain so far do you think it's going to be muddy out there? We are thinking about stopping off there for a few hours in the afternoon on our way into Blythe tomorrow.

We are thinking about stopping off there for a few hours in the afternoon on our way into Blythe tomorrow. Only been out there once. Memory says it was hard pan desert. Away from the road the geode beds are decomposing obsidian and volcanic ash. Just be careful in your new rockhound truck!

Unless things have changed drastically, the Potato Patch wasn't hard to reach in a regular car. For the most part the eggs & geodes there were small but plentiful. It'd be a good side trip for those without 4wd. And the layer containing nodules started about 2' below the surface. Just find an old hole where someone has dug before & start expanding the hole. Always lots of broken eggs laying around those old holes too.
A plus to the potato patch. In the dry washes around that area I've found some very nice orange colored common opal with black dendrites. This material is in small chunks, but it's stable & cuts beautiful cabs.

Wish I'd seen this sooner. We missed Pow Wow and the BBQ at Tony's but we'll be in the area in a week or two. We could be there the 28th but that's pushing things, another week would make it a done deal. Our deal has been changing daily but should be settling down now. How long will people be set up at Desert Gardens? Be in touch.
