Little explanation on the material the purple is amethyst the pink is limb cast I suppose and the red is what I call bowling ball anyway it is some really dense synthetic material which appears to be infused with sand grains a person had a large chunk of it and the surface seem to be tumbled or vibed well it was smooth anyway I cut a piece off it and could tell it was synthetic cause it sort of melted if cut to fast and is prone to chipping out I might have enough for another heart wish I had cut a bigger piece ! It makes for vibrant red heart material being that it some sort of resin mixture the shine-- really shines This city as Valentines vendors on every street corner marketing balloons, stuffed toys, perfumes, chocolates, ect I suppose that a phenomena in warmer climes? but no rock’n hearts! I’m really bummed that I didn’t get it together Happy Heart Day RTH!

A purple heart ! Is this fluorite Ed ? Hi James I got a question have you ever seen a lapidary full radius bit? or 1/4" bull nose bit sort of like this I’m searching for something to contour the edges of the stone or at least hog out excess material & to provide a guide to further polishing I want to accomplish this on the homps of the hearts Ultimately it would be great if the Gryphon made one to keep cost down But making a machine to accommodate the bit shown shouldn’t be overly complicated yet making that bit does require some serious machining I suppose the rock’n hearts could certainly benefits for some automation and still retain their hand craftiness I just ask because your excellent at crafting innovation and have researched lots Thanks! Ed

I was given a source of incredible diamond sculpting bits. Let me find that company and give credit to the one that referred me.

Those bull noses for a shaper can be costly Ed. There are larger diameter cab wheels that my suit your needs. Looks like 1 inch is the smallest. manofglass referred me to this site jadecarver.com/catalog.pdfMay have to go with a burr to get such a small radius in concave direction. Would be better to have a larger diameter wheel than a burr I imagine.

You have outdone yourself! That red is really something!
I remember that you can get some diamond contour wheels for the genie, maybe the pixie, but I don't remember the specifics. I'm sure you could find out what DP sells.

Thanks James!
on that page I see an idea I have the concave wheel before investing the money my idea is too concave a S/C wheel with a bull nose carbide bit
then using that radius and setting the stone offset from center- manually- I think I could grind off material from the edge fairly well getting pretty decent grind profile
at least that would be an inexpensive trick to try to see if that worth an investment
Those V wheels are nice to ! I’ve done that with S/C wheel I don’t use it enough though I keep forgetting I got things ha ha
rounding over an edge of a stone is time consuming and hard! Looking for a more efficient process…

i was wondering if you could simply cut the profile in an SiC wheel. Once profiled it should stay that basic shape as you grind your shoulders.
I believe they have diamond cutters to cut profiles in diamond segment wheels. The thought of doing diamond on diamonds gives me the goose bumps.
