Doods,
Any member of this board who "uses" this board as a springboard to launch their own board will be banned.
And to be quite frank, the entire internet population despises this practice of PM ing members of a given board to "glean" or "recruit" them to "another board".
I dont want to be a kill joy.
Trade with members here. Fine. Advertise your website here for free (in sigs/posts)- Fine.
EMAIL OR PM THE MEMBERS HERE to join your site - No.
As a more relaxed version of this message (as ive got it off my chest now) - I would give the following advice - SERIOUSLY.
Learn to do SEO - building a site is done by utilising the search engines to bring interested parties to the information you have built/created.
Choose your keywords carefully when doing SEO, your websites should be visible to people who WANT to find you, but try not to aim too high and go for the most popular keywords right away.
I would say that one of the most helpful places regarding SEO I have ever come across is webmasterworld.com.
Soz if I seemed a bit sharp - I tend to let things build up and then I kind of blow off steam.
I hope the advice helps those wanting to start websites. The advice there I give is 100% the basis of this forum. Whilst its only a starting point - the reading anyone does at webmasterworld will make any site a success.

Just curious ... I'm not involved in such stuff ... but are our PM's checked by someone here?

Adrian, in answer to your question - PMs are not checked by anyone here - they are completely private, there are no facilities for anyone on this board (myself included) to view any PMs which are sent to any other members.
Cheers Mark

I'm very glad to see that you're taking a clear stance on this crap! Some people would steal from their own family. Let alone the friends that comprise this forum. You've done a wonderful job of putting this site together & both my wife & I enjoy it immensely. I'd hate to see it torn apart or to lose some members to the benefits of someone else. This is your idea, your HARD work & most importantly YOUR FORUM! Last

Mark, I have been on this forum a long time. I have seen you take a back stance to a lot of things, I would have stood for. This must be really hard for you. I have a feeling it is more than just someone wanting to share, and spread this about. You have more patience than I have seen in someone in a long time. Bummer. I know nothing about this, but in essence, I agree with what everyone so far has said. Again, Bummer. There is no forum like this one out there. None. It has been done very well, right out of the gate. Hey, how about photos of Luke, we haven't seen him lately.

Doc. "This must be really hard for you" Ive quoted u there - yes - I dont want to make up and invent rules and be a dictator, but I had to so as to protect the interests of this board which will be here for as long as I live. I havent banned anyone over this, and also I would be LOATHED to do so. But the board comes first. Luke pics - I'll fire a few up - hes just started walking so i'll try and shoot some whilst hes on his feet Cheers as always Doc. Mark

Mark, we have a landlord for the shop who is kinda like you. They are people who just do the right thing without prejudice. Period. We went through a real period last year and they were the first to stand behind us. You remind me of them. Perhaps that is one of the reasons this has been such a forum. Way cool. I am looking forward to seeing Luke. My son is grown, manages a department in a bank, and thinks I am in Nunavut selling Moose parts to Dutch tourists. I have sent him pictures, a GPS location, complete with altitude. I really hope Luke and you and the Mrs., live a long family life. It is important.

hey mark you have let us run wild here to an extent and it has been the best board i have ever been too --- and i don't blame ya at all nobody with a forum on the INTERNET will allow a member to recruit from the membership of there forum to a forum of the same kind -- that would be plain foolish after all your hard work and time put in -- you get a big two thumbs up from me -- so no worries man you and (we the members) still have the best rock site on the net so lets keep it that way -- an i don't really see that rule as being out of line i don't think id have been as nice as you about it hahaha

Occasionally we do things as human beings that we don't realize will cause conflict. I don't believe Dan was intending to step on anyone's toes by inviting his friends to check out his forum and I don't think he deserves anyone's ill will. He loves RTH and has been a valuable member. Now, for whatever reason, he doesn't feel welcome here. That's sad.
OK, so he didn't use proper Internet etiquette, but I seriously doubt he wanted to "steal" RTH members and I don't see the harm in belonging to multiple Rock Forums. The more the merrier.
Well, that's my $0.02 worth. Rock on. :PS
Mark, you are a scholar and a gentleman.

I agree with what Susan told. Besides, the strongest advertising of the above-mentioned forum on this forum seems to be this thread itself.
I want to congratulate you, Mark, for that great forum. Also you should know that I was not aware about that unwritten rule and probably there are many members here like me. While not-advertizing in public a forum on another forum is a common sense rule, restricting the PM-s and e-mails are not so obvious for many of us. But rules are rules and must be respected so it's good you've posted it here.

I will say that Susan and I have been at odds on issues before, but in this case I agree with what she said. First of all Dan did not steal anyone, and made it plain to me he loved RTH but was setting up a different format, and he did not want anyone to leave RTH, besides I have seen one member of his forum say he had never heard of RTH and I do believe he is here now, so he could actually help this board. Besides I have not seen anyone that is there leave here. Also I like the smaller board because your post stays on front page long enough for more people to see it, and not gone in 1 day. But I still love RTH and Mark does a great job, and I love the people here. I will never leave unless I am thrown out. Terry

It's been quite a while since I visited here. I'll just say that one particular person was responsible for my ill feelings and now I see that same person is at the center of yet another internet controversy.
Amazing in a sad, pitiful way.
I'll pop in a couple of months from now and see what else is new.

Mark, I agree with Susan.. all the way. If we are talking about Dan, His site is so different then yours. He even tells people about your site and gives your address. Dan loves RTH and I feel bad that there are hard feelings towards him. His board is for silver work ,PMC work ,cabs, and rocks. It gives me a chance to show my forged silver work and silver bezel cabs. Please don't be angry . I love this board also. I also tell people to check us out. there is enough room for many boards.I don't think he was trying to steal anyone from your board. He isn't like that. SilverLass

I agree with Silver Lass - I don't usually get involved in conflict on the board but Dan is such a gent - I really think he meant no harm. He is/was such a happy, helpful member of this board. I hope too many feelings aren't damaged on both sides (both Mark's and Dan's).

My $0.02 which is usually only worth a penny!
I agree with NMRocks, Adrain65, Terry664, SilverLass and Erbojones! Dan has made it very clear he loves RTH and I most certainly hope he does not leave. I also love RTH and so much appreciate the effort that went into the design and start of such a wonderful forum.
I respect the members of this forum and look forward to each time I can log on. I have learned so much it is amazing. I have been shown so much unselfishness it is astonishing.
We often talk about us RTH'ers as being a family. I believe we are the best family on the Internet! A huge family with great strength through diversity, with talent, tenacity and most of all trust, but with any family things happen. I don't believe anyone involved has a motive to break that trust.
Thanks again to all those who have gone before and made this board what it is today!
