Here is my latest creation. It is Tiffany stone (Bertrandite) in sterling with five 3 mm purple CZ's that I gypsy set into 10 gauge sterling. Lots of silver in this one. The original stone was a dino bone that was a great match for the CZ's, I broke it pushing it into the bezel (totally operator error, I knew better). Then I cut another different bone and actually set it then decided I did not like it so I actually broke the stone to take it out as I was not risking damage to the bezel. Then I cut what was called purple grape from Utah, from an old collection I bought, I did not like that, then I cut an Amethyst and did not like that. I finally went over to a friends and he had a nice purple/blue slab of Tiffany stone. I liked this one:) The cab is purple in some light and blue in others. The bail is actually set using a 14 gauge hand made rivet. Overall I am happy, it took way to long to make but really what the hell else to I have to do LOL, Thanks for checking it out.

Very nicely done.looks as if you've got the flush setting down pat.really like the rivet.been toying with the idea of making a pendant with interchangeable cabs, the rivet gave me some ideas to add to mine. Dave

I love the graceful curves of the bail. Nice riveting work, and flush setting, Tom.

Love that cold connection. It's a great idea. For some reason, soldering bails to bezels is like fighting Jaws for me. That's what gives me the hardest time and takes the longest. Probably psychological. I know it's coming, I tense up... disaster. I might go ahead and give riveting a shot. I tend to use it on copper cuffs anyway. I love the gypsy settings, does that mean drilling a pointed hole with... what? I have seen several of these sets on the board. And can someone explain to me why some CZs cost as much as actual stones?

The cold connection came about because when I was 10 seconds from done the red rouge buff snagged the pendant from my hand and ripped the bail off. Although frustrating as hell it told me that my solder joint was not good enough. So what to do now? A cold connection and it worked excellent (thanks again Soham) You are best just to have a look on youtube for "gypsy or flush setting". There is no glue used. I can't explain the CZ thing you are asking, I always thought they were dirt cheap compared to real gemstones, although there are some man make stones that are really pricey but I am not sure why.

True eye candy Tom. You have been cranking out some fine creations lately. You can look a Monet and tell it is a Monet. Each of your creations are as if(this is a compliment) as if each is made by a different person.
An artist that can vary his work to such a degree catches interest like no other. Like a versatile actor that can play any type of role.
Perhaps bordering on genius and madness as the two often live in the same nest.

Nice thoughts, James. Tom's work is just fantastic... Hey, I resemble that last statement...I just ain't got no talent. Genius...I must be one as several of my old teachers used to make the statement..."Oh yeah, you're a real genius alright!". And madness...well, each day I get closer and closer...

Lovely work indeed. Now that you've got a good grip on flush setting, why not graduate beyond CZ? It just seems unusual that going to the effort of setting great cabs in a great design in hand-made silver, then incorporates a manufactured CZ. Just mho.

Thanks for the comments though. Plus I can't afford the real stuff. Lol

People don't don't put much value on fake stuff. It could bring the perceived value of your piece down.
