This is my first prong setting that didn't end in a puddle of silver and frustration. The stone is a tourmalated quartz:

Looks pretty good (and solid) to me. I love the way you twisted the split shank. Great job!

That's looking pretty tidy ... it's difficult to see the prongs too well. At this scale, that's a good sign. They look a little square. You can round them a touch with a file, but if the stone is softer than the steel it will mark. To prevent this just stick a little masking tape on the stone's table. Keep checking it, if it's wearing out then replace the tape to keep the stone protected.

you can round the end of the prongs with a cup bur in your fordom or dremmel tool. Cup burs can be had a a number of sizes and are available from any good jewlry supply house.

That's great feedback, thanks! Cup Bur, I need one of those for smoothing out earring wire. I need a Foredom tool too come to think of it :-)

you can round the end of the prongs with a cup bur in your fordom or dremmel tool. Cup burs are great for prongs that are mostly 'up' and need rounding down; for those that are 'over' I'd recommend using a file.

I like everything about your ring. Rings are not easy!

That looks great glad you were persistent and didn't give up on doing it.
