The purple came from a single 35 pound coral head. As you can see it was a boring dull but rare brown color. Why it turned purple when heat treated I will never know. Tried to find more like it and failed. Go figure. Here is a tumble from it So that's where it came from! I really, really need to make a setup for better pictures. at least I used the Nikon digital today instead of the cell phone. left it home accidently

Took time today to cab some of the Bots and pretty happy with the results. Not so happy with my lack of a good picture taking setup. One of the flatter ones of the batch. still had to back it as it was pretty thin This one caused hair pulling galore as I wanted the inside to light up better, but failed to get it to show very well. Love that White contrast with the Root beer color! Though small, this one is stunning in person. The darker/lighter line is from the reflector I used and not in the stone The Frog Prince :-) Reminds me a lot of Fire Agate, but minus the fire The Purplish one. I wish all the details the camera brought out were this visible to the naked eye. Reflections again :-( This shows good detail and how the backing levels the cab and makes a thin cab thick enough to set in a deep bezel Thanks for all the positive comments. Next step, setting in Sterling, but I have to put them aside for a while and play catch up on custom orders at the shop

You got some of the finest headed your way. Hand picked this morn, including 3-4 darn nice bots. Glare in last photo shows the 'fingerprints' that run throughout the coral. Excellent work Arlen.

Thanks, but I hope you are keeping plenty of the top shelf stuff in reserve for yourself Don't know why I have became so enamored with Coral, but have been bitten by the bug pretty hard

I never really sell it. And do not send the better stuff out for free. not many have held the good stuff in their hand. You will get as good as it gets. Can't do much better. But good enough for me to play with some day.
It has taken me severely years to learn the material's reaction to heat. Heat really makes fine colors out of it. I do like the bright colors it comes in. Stands out in a setting.

Well, that didn't take long!!!! Just finished this Bot this morning and put it in the display. Before I even put a price tag on it, a couple spotted it and asked to see it, so I explained about it being fossilized Coral and where it was found. He asked "What would this sell for?" I quoted a price and he couldn't say "sold!" fast enough! I showed them some of the other pieces and ended up taking an order for a custom pendant for a bit more money I was going to bring it home this afternoon and get better pics of it, but it's on it's way to Texas Pretty cool pendant. The top part has a large lip on it much like a curling ocean wave, so rather than trim it away, I left it intact as i felt it added lots of interest to the piece.

Hoping your hourly wage went high on that one! I love it. Thanks for sharing your success. It makes us all better.

That came out great! People love the unique and unusual. I'm not surprised that it sold so quick. Congrats on the sale.

I was quite happy with the hourly wage The customers popped back in the shop today and we discussed a rather large (and expensive) Sugilite pendant when they return in May. At the end of the visit, it was pretty neat to hear the guy say "You are now officially our new custom jewelry maker!"

Every once in a while you get a customer who appreciates the unique and unusual and doesn't balk at the price. I showed them a picture of the one I sent James, but they both said this one appealed to them more. I might have stumbled upon a nich material, but time will tell if this was a fluke, or if it will take off.

Arlen, you can also purchase Florida/Georgia botryoidal chunks and cut/break the bots into jewelry size pieces. captbob bought a giant load of bot filled pieces that could be divided into many jewelry sized pieces. The thinner more desirable jewelry sized bots often end up on the shoal bars that are all the 1-4 inch rocks accumulate. Then there is a lot of broken but larger pieces(the mother chunk) where the larger rocks are.
