Hey everyone,
I'm thinking about taking a week off and driving to Oregon in early-to-mid-May. I'd like to check out Glass Buttes (especially that fire pit) and stop by Spectrum Mines. I drive a Prius...which is definitely not a great rockhounding vehicle. Does anyone have suggestions? I'm a little worried about being able to access the back-country, especially near GB.
Anyone wanting to meet up?

The Spectrum and Dust Devil mine shouldn't present a problem for the Prius if you take it slow. The road was very rough when we were there, but no big ruts or potholes. If you have a couple hundred to spare, buy an hour on the conveyor belt.

Thanks for both suggestions! I'll also look into renting a more suitable vehicle or swapping with a friend, since the clearance on that thing is so low (sub-6 inches).
Yes, I'm also leaning towards splurging on a mine run, since I'm interested in learning how to facet and it would nice to find my own rough.

Also there will be a large group at the sunpebbles that weekend, birthday rock dig for the author of the newest rockhounding Oregon book.

Rockoonz, thanks for the heads up! I didn't realize that they already set a date. Memorial Day weekend sounds great, and I'd love the chance to RTHers! Though my hang gliding buddies will be ticked off at me...haha.
