Hey Folks, I may be heading out to the Palm Desert/Indio/Salton Sea area and was wondering if anyone had recommendations on rockhounding locations nearby?
Thanks! Paul Shiroma

At the very southern end there is a large obsidian outcropping. Somewhere on the East side not far away is the "mud pots". Your kids would get a kick out of seeing them. Near the duck station is all I can remember as I followed a group there and over ten years ago. Steam vents created "mud volcanoes". This kid enjoyed them for sure.

"Red hill" is the obsidian. There is common black and snowflake. I'm told there are other spots too.
Paul, Google "mudpots". Little mud volcano's all over that area. The boys will love it. Including you!
East of Salton Sea is chocolate mountains. Tons of.material.there. most is militadty base, but the roads that pass thru can be hounded. South and East is Indian pass.
