Answer: mostly quartz. A nice Spring walk in the creek got me a colorful bucket to add to my collection. Still finding some large unopened material, but I like to get the broken pieces to see what's going on inside. When I find the right deal on a saw, I'm going to be busy cutting for a while. Until then, the intact pieces will remain a mystery.
This looked like a chunk of pineapple to me.
Some pretty smoky quartz.
Cool blue chalcedony. This one is about the size of half a volleyball. Wish I had found it whole.
This scene reminds me of the picture jasper we have at the house.
And I had to get a shot of the pear trees in bloom on the way home.
Thanks for looking. Randy

Wow, you've got some nice stuff there. Pretty scene on the way home. What state are you in?

Jugglerguy In Kentucky. Don't know if I can do anything with this stuff but look at it, but I have fun collecting it.

The chalcedony will tumble for sure. The quartz crystals sure are nice to just look at. I'm not sure about the picture rock, but I'd cut it.

The picture rock is very much a porous rock that isn't good for much, except that I liked the scene. I'm anxious to see if any of my buckets have the banded agate I'm trying to find.

Those sandstone picture stones can be very nice and even make some finished products. Even jewelry. But coasters are nice..

The crystal structure in the first one looks like a calcite.

The crystal structure in the first one looks like a calcite. Calcite, dolomite and many other minerals can be found in Kentucky's geodes. It's at least as likely as my pineapple theory.

Garage Rocker, I would like you to slice the picture rock for display stands, shadow boxes, and also cut for cabs and then fill the pores with an epoxy/acetone solution to get a more stable product. Once stabilized I would smooth and shape and then use a clear coat of some sort for a surface coat if needed. The other mentioned uses also sound excellent.

Do you find that stuff on a walk from home, or drive somewhere to take your walk? For us, It's 250+ miles at least to find mtl. probably not as nice as yours. Enjoyed the pics., keep taking those walks.

I've now looked around a bit and see some good looking displays. I'll start picking more of that and I'm thinking I'll also grab some of the siderite concretions I've been passing up.

Enjoyed the pics., keep taking those walks. A walk in the creek is well worth the hour drive from home. Sometimes the boys go with me and other times it's solitude. There's so much variety in the area, I'll be a long time exploring the various creeks in that watershed.

My first fixed thread. Fortunately, I made the switch to Flickr pretty early on. Shouldn't take long to finish the rest. It's a start...
