Greetings folks!
I go by geezer and I hail from central Indiana. I've been involved with one form or another of the hobby as long as I can remember. I've helped a friend, a faceted stone dealer and gemologist with local (mostly club) shows for over 25 years. My current goal is to get back in the hobby, and have been gathering used equipment for the last couple months. So far I have collected: A 16" Jenkins slab saw. Looks to be in pretty good shape. The Felker blade looks almost new, but I want to re-wire it before using it. A Sears 8" double arbor. In good shape. A Sears 8" (I think) rotary flat lap In good shape. 2 OLD vibrating flat laps (one 10" and one 12") seen better days- need to replace metal clips and springs on the sides. An abused Loritone TS-8 trim saw. needs a flange, nut, new blade (a 6" was on it), and a lot of TLC.
I also have some silversmithing experience and have a large Swest burnout oven and a Neycraft centrifuge, as well as my torches.
The equipment is being put back together after a "well meaning " Brother-In Law" decided to clean out my Mother's garage.........
My eventual goal is to set up an internet site where I can sell rough, slabs, cabs, and finished jewelry, more for the idea of supporting addiction/hobby more than making a buck. I have a LONG way to go on this before I start selling stuff. I'm OLD SCHOOL to the nth degree- just got our first smart phone, and still have to figger out how to use the computer to post pictures!
I am starting to put together a of supply of rough to cut. This is mostly old material from a shop that was around in the 1970-1990 era. So far I've picked up a lot of pet. wood (Arizona and Northern Nevada-I think), crazy lace, orange-tan opalite, rutilated and tourmalated quartz (major score), Brazilian carnelian, solid, unstabilized variscite, and about 10 pounds of what I think is chrysoprase, some with black dendrites near the matrix interface () (uber score!), about a 5 gallon bucket of tiger eye (yellow, blue, and mixed), a BUNCH of red horn coral (Utah, I think...), and 2 "slabs" of "old" malachite- one is 10 pounds, and the other is 15 pounds.
Anyhoo, that's who I am, what I'm going to try, and what I got at the moment. I've been a lurker here for about 6 weeks. I'm not out to sell anything yet, and I like the idea of getting to know folks first- as a buyer or as a seller (I could hold my own swapping horror stories with some of the dealers here!)
I also have a lot to learn/relearn, and this looks like a good place for that.
Thanx all!
Geezer

Welcome. There is a tutorial on posting pics you can find with a search here. Look forward to seeing pics of what you have.
If you get around to wanting to do some trading let me know. I would be interested in some of the tiger's eye. Have not worked with any yet but been wanting to.

Welcome to the forum, geezer....there might be some confusion around here as there are a lot of (old) geezers around here, but we'll try to work through it. Look forward to seeing your input. There's lots of *very* knowledgeable and good, helpful people here. Great group. Ed

Welcome from Virginia Beach, Va- land of clay and sand. You certainly have a good start on what you'll be using! I, too, sell to support my hobby/habit.

Welcome from Michigan, Geezer! It sounds like you've got a god start on equipment and rough. To post pictures, you need a hosting site like Photobucket or Flickr. Upload your pictures there, and then copy the BBcode from there and paste it here.

Folks, Thanks for the warm welcome! I found the photo posting info first thing last night and had a chance to peruse it, I'll digest it in more detail this week. There will be questions. With any luck I'll have rock pile pictures by the end of the week! My lovely Wife is going to check out Photobucket and Flickr and play around with them with the camera on the phone. I'll dig the digital camera out of mothballs (got it for Christmas 2 years ago and never opened it.....) and play around with it. I would be open to a trade or two, and vegasjames, I'll shoot you a message. This is only my second post and NOBODY here knows me from Adam! My main request is to move what you get from me to the front of the line and post a picture of the finished piece. This gives me something to talk about ! Folks, thanks again!
