Lived there over the summers as a kid. Lots of family still on Amelia. My family ran the poggy fishery right next to the fort. Glad to hear you have been there, it is a great place on earth. Twas a big drug smuggling town back in the 70's. My cousin never got caught haha. They were all sailers and fisherman. Very hearty parties with the abundance of commodities. Still recuperating 35 years later. The poggy boats were 200 feet long and they netted all kinds of seafood with their purse boat drawn 1/2 mile nets. Target was Menhaden fish; small high protein fish that is ground up for chicken feed supplement. Lotsa lotsa wild times. That's the story mohsDrawing the net

jamesp, I know what you mean about drugs in 70's. I used to spend time in Green Cove Springs. Lots of low flying planes. Yeah, I really love that area there. Have you been to Cumberland Island? Paradise.

Paradise. Yes, been to Cumberland. used to spend lots of time on the beach when it was a small beach town. Amelia became a resort and they got too strict on the locals and all the fun disappeared. Green Cove, the St. John's River is still old Florida. Undiscovered and wild, a brackish water paradise. Lots of family moved from the beach to the St. John's.
