It would also be pretty funny, he said, if someone actually fell for it. "We would laugh at them,'' Armstrong said, "and then we'd arrest them."

I believe it was in Birmingham, Alabama, where the police, or sheriff department, got the local radio station to go along with a "contest". Seems the LEO picked out people they had warrants out for but could not locate. These peoples' names were announced over the radio as having had won a prize (a vacation maybe?). The announcer gave the address of where the "winners" could go to and claim their prizes...

County sheriff's a scary bunch. Make a fortune imprisoning young users. Keep them on a hook via probation/urine tests. They need weed to finance their Blue Bird prison buses and fast cars, pretty court room gals and burgeoning lawyer industry. Not the city counties, but the surrounding rural counties. Douglas County just finished a giant jail next to I-20. Use those tag reader interceptors and lock up warrants passing thru the county on I-20. Just a business. People business. I think the state subsidizes their incarcerations. Most are weed and DUI charge related warrants.
Those vehicle mounted tag readers, rumor has it they can read 10 to 20 thousand tags per shift. Notorious county, Douglas is.
Wife wants me to look into growing legalized maryjane, using plant nursery. I don't think GA/AL is allowing such just yet.

A bag of pot has ruined many a young person and family. The bad thing about the burgeoning lawyer industry is that they are as bad or worse than the "criminals". That is an incredible number of tags read, James....seems like the ghost of George Orwell is somewhere close by!!! By the time it gets legalized to grow it in our states you'll be able to by it at the dollar store and it won't be worth it to grow it...

The general public will not be able to grow it. Does the gov allow stills? The UN drug charter says that if a country that signed on legalizes pot. It must be controlled and distributed by the government. Unless your a friend of the Clintons, good luck getting a grow license.
Cultivation[edit] The Single Convention places the same restrictions on cannabis cultivation that it does on opium cultivation. Article 23 and Article 28 require each Party to establish a government agency to control cultivation. Cultivators must deliver their total crop to the agency, which must purchase and take physical possession of them within four months after the end of harvest. The agency then has the exclusive right of "importing, exporting, wholesale trading and maintaining stocks other than those held by manufacturers."
In the United States, the National Institute on Drug Abuse fulfills that function. NIDA administers a contract with the University of Mississippi to grow a 1.5 acre (6,000 m²) crop of cannabis every other year; that supply comprises the only licit source of cannabis for medical and research purposes in the United States.[32] Similarly, in 2000, Prairie Plant Systems was awarded a five-year contract to grow cannabis in the Flin Flon mine for Health Canada, that nation's licit cannabis cultivation authority.[33]
Article 28 specifically excludes industrial hemp from these regulations, stating, "This Convention shall not apply to the cultivation of the cannabis plant exclusively for industrial purposes (fibre and seed) or horticultural purposes." Hemp-growing countries include China, Romania, France, Germany, Netherlands, UK, and Hungary.[34]

bushmanbilly, yesterday you mentioned Trudy wanting to legalize pot, and the big tax grab it would represent. On the news last night they said State of Oregon took in as much pot tax in January as they expected to all year. Will we get any relief from other taxes, no, lots of bucks to blow on fancier stuff. Frustrating to see a near new state 4-door, 4wd pickup w/nice aluminum headache rack and toolbox being driven around by one person; they need that ya know.

Larry, be real. You know they'll save that grass green for important things...like sending a state helicopter to retrieve the governor's billfold from his house and carry it to him at the beach. You know, important things like that...the governor needed money to buy something to eat.

They also wants to decriminalize it to. He will have to be careful with the amount of tax they charge. He will have to stay competitive with the underground growers. Their input costs are very low. As for tax relief. How much tax relief has the tobacco tax given? Have not seen any tax relief here from it. A pack costs $14 here. This will become a free tax at will here just like the tobacco and alcohol taxes. Gov. raises these taxes at will because they can, with no blowback from the people.

Usually they just call them, tell them of an amazing prize like a truck or Ferrari and wait for them to turn themselves in.
