Nice chunk of Morenci I set in Sterling this week. I hand made the tips also as it just doesn't seem right to buy factory made tips to put on a piece like this. Didn't take any pics, but I also hand made the slide for the back

Did you braid the cord too?
Sole authorship?
Looks very nice. If I ever become an executive, I'll wear bolos instead of regular ties.

Very nice! Nice touch on the tips.
My dad and his family are from CA. They had lots of really sweet bolos, but I have no idea what ever happened to them. I know they were mostly very old turquoise. I'd love to see them again. This reminded me of it. Is that pyrite? Is morenci the only kind with pyrite? I don't know a lot about turquoise.

I'd love to see them again. This reminded me of it. Is that pyrite? Is morenci the only kind with pyrite? I don't know a lot about turquoise. I've never really been into Bolos, but I really should make one for myself to wear at the shop as advertising Yes, it is Pyrite in the Turquoise. Morenci was noted for having it more than the other mines, although I do have some Kingman and Sleeping Beauty with Pyrite. I have seen some in Chinese and Mexican Turquoise, but usually not as much or the size it in the Morenci. I browse Turquoise jewelry when I chance upon someone selling it and can't tell you how many times I've been told that "This Turquoise has Silver in it!" Some I'm sure were just not knowledgeable, but many use statement that to make it sound even more rare and valuable than it actually is, and are feeding customers a line of Bull to make a sale. The tips have a closed top and drilled to the diameter of the cord. I did add a bit of epoxy in the cavity, but then also drilled both sides and through the cord so I could pin the cord in place with Sterling wire. No way in hades those tips are coming off!

That's just excellent, but then I'm a sucker for Turq. The twisted wire is so good ... where's the join!?

No joint. What say you? I'm going with the idea that the wire is twisted - otherwise the sigmoidal profile would be a hell of a filing job indeed! And the join is in the top left corner... has to be!

That's just excellent, but then I'm a sucker for Turq. The twisted wire is so good ... where's the join!? Thanks. I forgot whether the join is center top or center bottom. I try to get the twists to match up as closely as possible and obviously succeeded in this piece

Didn't braid the cord, but that is the only thing about it not done by me. I did twist my own wire too How did you twist that wire it's very cool Thanks. This is either 14 or 16 ga wire doubled, chucked in a drill with other end in a vise and twisted at low speed. I do not anneal the wire first, so occasionally will break it, usually near the drill. Before setting the stone, I did the patina with live of sulfur, then buffed the piece leaving patina in the recesses. This is one of those pieces that evolved as I worked on it, so the customer got a helluva buy. Rather than try to get more money if I have a better idea for the piece, I figure the customer will show it off and possibly send me more business, so it works out in the end. Now if the customer makes changes, I do adjust the price accordingly
