Digging again Found a piece of granite, thought it looked different so I tried different type tests. I have a rare earth magnet and it picked up the rock, surprised , so I looked it up and some granite is magnetic. So,I learned that the value Of the rock and .75cents will still buy you a pop at the gas station. HA

Now you got me thinking and that could be bad, for me. The rock is not cleaned up, just out of the ground and washed off the mud in muddy water. When it got wet that's when it looked more like granite. It had black specs along with white specs and another color but not sure. I will look closer and clean the rock better, for a better pic. Thank you

Well, I guess Ohio isn't the only place with lots of granite. If you dig anywhere granite is the first thing you find. But, Like I said let me clean it up and both of use will see. Also, there is nothing wrong with trying to help. Dale

I don't see anything that would lead me to believe that it is a meteorite.

Probably a piece of Iron Ore or Taconite. I am not home so I cant take any pictures of the tailing from the some of the mines. A friend works at one of them and has been hauling the tailings for a large french drain. They put piles of different sizes next to the gate so anyone can load up if they want some. Most of the material is magnetic and looks real similar to what you found. Grayish with black spots. It is tumbled also as a part of the taconite process so rounded edges.

Sound like a likely candidate. Don't they usually process taconite into little balls? For making steel? I used to see tons of it stored at the docks in Toledo. It was always little marbles of it. Yep that is the end product but there is material that is a by product which didn't turn into the little balls. They ship it out on rail so the taconite balls are littered all around them. We use them for sling shot. They call the finished product Taconite but there is also the taconite rock which is a low grade iron ore.
