Wow, that is pretty stuff! Plainly a chert mix. Lots of the Franciscan Formation chert deposits seem to be hematite rich so a heavy weight example would not be unexpected. The poppy deposits I used to work up at Hunters Valley were full of hematite, even to the extent some specimens were dead ringers for banded jaspelite ad extremely heavy weight stuff....Mel

Wow, that is nice!!!! You can do a scratch test on some unglazed porcelain. The color will tell you if it is hematite or magnetite.

Are you sure that isn't an organ from some large animal? Looks like you could slice and fry it.

If those are all healed fracture lines-this stone has been through hell and back!!! Here's a solid piece with many healed fractures and it's actually poppy jasper. Perhaps you can see the micro poppies in a line on the left? I have to use my eyelupe.

This is definitely a silicon based life chemistry. 😎
