Recalling my experiments re 'how low can you go?' cutting a 9mm Noreen Jasper slab and then a 6.5mm Scottish Carnelian in two (yeah, that got messy). Well these are the bits I salvaged. Or nearly salvaged... A finished stone in the hand is worth 2 in the rough: Damn.. But 'nearly' isn't good enough:

It's not so bad. I pulled the finished pieces out of the broken slab.
Yeah, the one that broke is a bummer (can I say that?). It was finished until I noticed a blemish on the rear. I ground that out and then thought that it would pass light through better if it was polished. I polished away and then just very last thing, upped the revs to give it the glass finish. Oh well, if the weakness was there, its best coming out now. I do wonder if it had been in a finished piece, would that have protected it though. Too late now for what-ifs.
