Hello All! My name is Jesse and I recently took the dive into Rock tumbling with my 9 year old daughter. It seems like every zoo or museum gift shop we come out of my daughter is fascinated by the stone sections, whether they are polished or not. I have always enjoyed looking at them aswell so for her ninth birthday I decided to order us up some equipment to start playing with stones! I wentto rock shed and ordered the 33b lortone tumbler with the grits and polishes. We cant wait to get started!! Just wanted to say hello!

Welcome Jesse. Rock tumbling will be a great mother daughter activity. If you have any questions at all feel free to ask. Make sure to post some pictures as you go too.
P.S. The 33b is a great starter setup

Welcome from California. Yep, that's how it usually starts! I don't tumble, but there are many tumbling experts here.

Thank you for the welcome! We are very excited to get started. I think what will be most difficult for my daughter is the wait times on tumbling, but i think i can help that by getting her out collecting and refining other ways. Id love to learn to hand polish and cut cabs so between that and getting her out searching we should be good! Im actually new to Kansas, i moved from massachusetts recently. Ill have to see what i can find out here or in nearby states!

It's good for father/daughter also. My sons are hanging with it, but it has definitely become more Dad's hobby. Welcome from Kentucky.

I must admit, this hobby is just as much for dad as it is for my girl! Even if my daughter loses interest, ive been wanting to get into tumbling for years! Its for both of us, but her interest really helped justify dropping over $200 in equipment to the Mrs. Haha

Your story sounds a lot like mine. My son is now 17 and has very little interest in rocks. His room is still full of them though. I figure in about thirty years he may get interested again. In the meantime, I've accumulated four tumblers and a bunch of other equipment. The 33b was our first and is still rolling. Welcome to the forum, Jesse!

Same here. I explained to my wife that the 33B was nice, but the kids were going to throw a fit if they didn't have the QT12, the Lot O and a couple tile saws. Who knows what they'll be after next??? Kids...

I bought my Lot-O before my first batch was done. It seemed like the right thing to do, for my son, of course.

Haha. Must.....get.......loto......the more i read the more i want one. I think it would help with my little one. I want to teach her patience but I think there will still be plenty of that in the hobby even with a loto to speed things up!

Welcome from Virginia Beach! Just wait till you get that first batch of shiny rocks- a girl is a girl and we gotta have those shiny rocks. Your daughter will want to go collecting her own before long. I think it's really cool to have something you will both enjoy. I got into it after my kids were grown, but my grandkids have taken their turns with interest, especially my youngest.

Thank you Rockjunquie! We cant wait to get those shiny stones! Our tumbler came in today so now we are doing some research about polishing some Amethyst! My wife and nine year old saw the bag of purple rough and it was all over after that! Hopefully its not a super difficult stone to start with, they really want me to start that first!

Hey thanks for the welcome herchenx and vegasjames!!! Even though we are still a bit clueless, the reasearch and learning is very fun! As long as I can get my 9 year old out to look for neat rocks, she doesnt mind the time consuming aspects of learning and tumbling. I am pretty excited to be getting outside with the fam away from the technological distractions I never had when i was her age!
