There was a gator in my neighborhood at Atlanta for 15 years. Full grown. 200 miles north of their territory. Never could figure that one out.

The wildlife refuge in Eufaula, Alabama, has a very large alligator population so that's about 125 miles from Atlanta...still a nice walk/swim for an overgrown lizard. Probably took a UF bus to Atlanta. Down south of us, below Andalusia and closer to the Florida (panhandle) line there are a couple of small lakes...Open Pond and Blue Lake. Open Pond is less than ten miles from the state line. There were several alligator attacks down there around 30 years ago... Gator Victims. Few attacks reported in Alabama since then... I'm not sure how accurate this data is, but... Gator attacks since 1948Showing latest available data (2005?). Rank States Amount # 1 Florida: 337 # 2 Texas: 15 = 3 Georgia: 9 = 3 South Carolina: 9 # 5 Alabama: 5 # 6 Louisiana: 2 = 7 Arkansas: 1 = 7 North Carolina: 1 = 9 Mississippi: 0 = 9 Oklahoma: 0 Total: 379 But, (who knows if the data below is accurate data, either?) it appears gators rank low on the annual number of fatal attacks... Average Number of Deaths per Year in the U.S (2008?)Bee/Wasp 53 Dogs 31 Spider 6.5 Rattlesnake 5.5 Mountain lion 1 Shark 1 Alligator 0.3 Bear 0.5 Scorpion 0.5 Centipede 0.5 Elephant 0.25 Wolf 0.1 Horse 20 Bull 3 So much for the killer trivia data for today....
