Hello, my name is Stephen and I'm from Alaska. Ever since I was a little kid, i have always wanted a rock tumbler. While I was away for work, my wife ordered me a lorton tumbler as a surprise, it should be here any day now. Today we took the kids on an adventure and looked for rocks at a couple of our local rivers. I have soooo many questions but I will take a look around and see if any of them can be answered on some of the posts here. I do have one question though. I was told that you can't polish river rocks because they have been under running river water for years so if anything they should already be smooth and polished. Any input would be awesome. Thank you!!

Welcome from Kentucky! You can, and should, tumble those river rocks. Yes, the river has got them nicely rounded, but it's up to you to put a shine on them. You'll figure out which ones polish better than the others soon enough.

Welcome from Oregon.

Another welcome from Michigan. I haven't tumbled river rocks, but Great Lakes rocks tumble just fine. Nature just gave the rocks in the water a nice head start.
