I cut this cab specifically to bezel set this morning and practiced with a copper setting first. I really thought this one deserved silver though so I scraped the copper and went for it. I ran out of time and I am going away for a week so this is as far as I got. I could not be any happier. Very clean looking piece. This was my first time soldering the bezel using pallions too and that went good. Here was a practice run utilizing the back plate for the bail. Chuck

Very nice! Are you going to solder on a bail? If so, solder it onto the backplate, and avoid the fine silver bezel. Hmmm, if you bought bezel wire, it is fine silver. If you cut from a sheet, could be something else.
Fine silver melts easily.
Do you know about stepped bezels? Don't need a back plate and light can come through.

My plan is to order some pre-fab bails from RIO. Is this considered cheating or just good time management? LOL Anyone using stuff like this? I would like to know the quality of them. Chuck

See above about the bail. I have been cutting the backs out on the last few but I really want this to have a nice solid back. I did see some pieces at a gift shop that looked like the step bezel you are talking about. The shop owner told me she would prefer solid. Chuck

Re stepped bezel : toucan buy it with the step already there. Depends on the cab as to whether or not you use it. If you want the back to show (polished or raw), use it. You can also back cabs that are transparent in places with black or blue. See biker Randy's threads. See stoner threads as well

Nice job for sure. Glad you went for the silver. I like bails that are hand fabricated, you can make out of sheet or wire.

Chuck, Don't buy too many pre-made bails. After using one or two of them you will suddenly get inspired to be more creative with your bail making. The bail should be incorporated into the overall design of the main piece.
When I first started metalsmithing I bought 6 each of 3 premade bails. I used 4, and then replaced 2 of them with handmade bails. Ten years later I still have 14 of them in my findings box. So don't buy too many.
