There's a good bit of small stuff in there. Had a 1 Pound tub you get slaw in at the deli full of trim saw left overs and about 3 pounds or so of 1/4 - 3/8 inch aquarium gravel, maybe 4-5 pounds worth of small stuff. I think it's sound is because; the tub is hard plastic; I filled it pretty full; and the indentations for a hand hold on the coffee tub make for some crazy mixing action.
I'm figuring it's a single run barrel and hoping it'll hold up for a 2 week run. Ought to have plenty to work through the smaller barrels after that as this barrel is about 6" diameter and 6" high, what's that, about 10 pounds?
Had some barrel stuttering so I put a couple wraps of friction tape on the drive roller and that fixed that. The grommets on the idler roller do a pretty good job of stopping barrel wander but I'm still getting a bit of drift along the rollers, pushing the grommets. Have to think about that a bit.
I'll shoot another vid in a week and post it up. Ya'll have to tell me how the sound changes as I'll be next to it and probably won't notice subtle changes in the sound. Plus I can't hear worth chit anyway.
I still think it sounds like it is either beating the heck out of each other or no water. That is the sound mine makes when the water leaks out. I don't have to check my tumblers because I can hear them through the vent in the kitchen. If I hear something that sounds like your video, I am going down to the basement real quick to try to salvage what I can.
On the other hand, maybe it is just that the camera is picking the sound up way too well.
No with that tumbler u should use a 6 or 8 inch PVC barrel! My 6 inch PVC barrel sounds like that. I put a permanent cap glued on one end and s 6 to 4 inch refer on the other end. Then put a clean out rubber cap over the 4 inch and it's held by a screw clamp that comes with it. Great job on the tumbler!!!

I can't find them locally. It is cheaper for me to use 4 inch because it is too costly to ship a bunch of them from Egypt or where ever they ship from. That link was for reference.

$47 ea is ridiculous anyways. Plus only had 1psi so blowout easy.
The black rubber 4 inch clamp on end on my tumbler doest pouch out but instead sulks in greatly. As a matter of fact my Lortone barrels suck in on their bottom too.

I really want you to succeed, but I still have reservations. I still think you are going to come home to a mess before it is complete. However, how much grit do you think is left now that it has gone for over a week? My guess would be none.
I roll my 12 pounders at least a month, maybe two. I like to get all the good out of a barrel of gtit. At a table spoon per pound of rock, I have 40 pound rolling so a clean out goes thru a lot of 46/70 grit. Changing out every week would be 52 x40 equals 2080 tablespoons grit versus 12x52 equals 480 tablespoons of grit. That's a huge savings and honestly I don't see a huge difference in speed of rounding! Plus I am lazy and cleaning out 6 tumble barrels every week would become a job and take the fun out. As it is I truly enjoy the clean outs and the excitement of a barrel of GEMS!!!

Mine turn slow. They r homemade. Less bruising and chipping while the slurry forms. The PVC tumblers do not grind the grit up as fast as the 12 pound Lortone drums.

The two weeks I recently had my pvc barrels running, the 36 grit I am using was gone in three days. No visible grit remained at all in 72 hours. In two weeks of 3day interval grit additions, many of the stones were ready to go to vibe.

ranchorosa: I found Quartz just east of Dryden, TX. and it does not seem to be a common find. I looked online and it seems like quartz is only typically found near Llano and further west in Alpine, TX..... could this be a sign of possible bigger finds in the area?
