Initial testing went better than expected. Tried the tub about 1/4 full of water and just snapped the lid on. Turned it upside down and leaked as expected but no where near as bad as I thought it would. 1 drop every couple of seconds.
Tried lining the rim with some elastic I had left over from physical therapy some years ago. About 1/2 hour upside down and no leaks. So I rolled it back and forth on the bench top a dozen or so times and still no leaks.
Next testing will have to wait till I build my machine, probably a couple weeks. Doing 20" rollers so I can get three 3# barrels on at once. Just waiting on the bearings. Pigeons are pretty slow at this altitude.
I cut strips of the elastic material about 2" wide (the elastic is 5 1/2" wide) and used 4 to cover the rim then snapped the lid on. Think when I do try it on the machine I'll use some ubiquitous duck tape just to be sure the lid stays on.
In case anyone is interested the elastic band comes from Thera-band.
Did I ever mention that when I go to the rodeo I cheer for the bull? I have had a 12 lb Lortone barrel delid itself 3 times and a Loto go skitzod once.....Catastrophic?? Yes LOL
Worlds Greatest One Legged Cowboy turned rockhound lapidary nerd! LOL
I would suggest that you place the unit in something that will catch the water and the grit when it goes. That way you do not have a great mess and you can reuse the grit and rock.
