The church that I attend is considering purchasing a wireless microphone system.
The area the microphones will be used in will require a transmitting range of less than 100'...probably closer to 60', but will be transmitting from the front, elevated pulpit area to the back of the church at a lower seating level...thus, will have at least a few bodies between the mics and the receiver.
The mics will be used for both singing and speech.
We are looking at a minimum of two handheld microphones with one lapel microphone. It appears, from what I've seen, that systems come with either two or four (or more) microphones. So, looking at the number of mics that we are talking about we are looking at probably either purchasing two dual systems or a single quad system.
We are a small country church with a limited budget but would rather buy quality once rather than quantity several times. Does anyone have a suggestion on a system for us that would be a good one but not break the bank?
Thanks! Ed

Yeah, we've got an old Peavey tube amp and some speakers already. Really just needing the microphone setup. Oh, and a CD/DVD player that is user friendly for music but I think we can figure that one out (I hope).

its interesting I haven’t particularly ever set one up
although I did take a class on sound recording 40 years ago before digital
but a question is: does the Peavey amp have the xlr connecter for wireless receiver ? will you have a mixer in between the wireless and the amp ?
yep I could see how the DVD/CD could represent other problems
your good at that stuff though
all computers are harboring Win 10 I'm sure

You took a sound recording class 40 years ago and I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express a few years ago...we could probably start the next upstart internet business sensation and take Wall Street by surprise!!!(I'm sure it would be a BIG surprise!!!! ) Yes, the Peavey has the XLR connections along with some regular phone jacks. It's a much older, tube-type amp. No, I'm apparently not a techno wizard as NONE of the computers took the WIN10 upgrade. NONE of them!!!! Not one of the comptuers even showed a sign that an upgrade had been attempted, no auto-response email from Msoft, no little note in the system tray, NADA, NOTHING. It was like it never even happened!!! And this was on *three* comptuers connecting to the internet from three different locations using two different ISPs. I will say that on one comptuer it showed "Installing Updates" but this just ended up being updates for Win7!!! Ah wel... Back to the microphones... Those Shure systems look good, but pricey$$$. Will study them and see what's what. We had a guy from the "local" Guitar Store Company supposed to meet us Saturday morning at church. We kept waiting on him and about an hour later found he had called and left word that he had *forgot* about the appointment and could come on down (minimum of an hour's drive down here) if we wanted him to. We left word that we would have to reschedule. I personally think it wasn't a big enough job to warrant the drive down, but I forget things, too....seems like it's getting to be a little more regular for me. I think we won't have a problem with the CD player...biggest issue is to get one with track number displayed big enough for people to see...nothing like having someone singing a special and having to bounce from wrong song to wrong song before getting the right one...makes for a lot of nervous smiles and head nods, though.<g> No, we don't have a legal receiver...we will need the entire setup. We do actually have a complete wireless setup....handhelds and lapels. After the 9/11 attack the FCC cordoned off a segment of the radio spectrum for emergency communications between different first responder agencies due to the chaos during the aftermath of the attack where the agencies could not communicate via radio with one another. Guess which frequencies the wireless setup we had was in?<sigh> With the stroke of a pen our wireless system became and still is illegal to use. ETA: Due to the lightening response time of our federal government the change didn't happen until 2010...FWIW...apparently a little bit after the digital television switch-over.

ha ha
I had look up what the acronym FWIW meant which is very appropriate to this discussion
Stop! Hey What’s That Sound
Perhaps that song should have been titled:
SHWTS
which is funny acronym in its own right...
