Just to introduce myself. I am from Port Perry, Ontario, Canada. I am known as Sunshine on the Canada Gold Prospectors forum, Placergold on TN and tess99991 on Youtube.
I am a long time gold (Cariboo, BC) and silver prospector (Cobalt, ON). Fairly recently, I got into rock hounding for crystals in Ontario. I have a 14 year old daughter who is starting to get interested in my hobbies and she especially likes shiny things.
I love rock tumbling and need to upgrade my machine. However, I keep finding "deals" and buy plastic tumblers and use them until they wear out. I enjoy trying to new kinds of rock to tumble. I have had many successes and plenty of failures. Also on my wish list is a flat lap to polish slabs.
I have started to take some amateur video on rockhounding, metal detecting silver and rock tumbling, which I post on Youtube under tess99991.

Welcome to the forum. Lots of good people and good information on here. I just started tumbling but always have been a rock hound. I also metal detect from time to time. I look forward to seeing some of your finds and tumbles!

Welcome to the forum. Lots of good people and good information on here. I just started tumbling but always have been a rock hound. I also metal detect from time to time. I look forward to seeing some of your finds and tumbles! Thanks! It has been such a hot summer, that I have avoided getting out with the metal detector, but Sept/Oct are usually great months - no bugs and hopefully the snow hols off. I have a tumble going right now in polish stage where I started with dolomite, which I have never tumbled before. I have already learned that I left it in coarse grind for too long and ground them down too far. I want to give it another try right afterwards. But here is the really interesting thing - there was silver in the dolomite and I am getting some pieces of dolomite with silver or just silver nuggets. Win or fail, I will take some pictures in about a week.

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you're already in; hook, line and sinker.
Things that don't entirely succeed are welcome as that's how we can all improve and learn without having to make all the mistakes.

Here is a quick update. I now have a proper tumbler on order and it was shipped yesterday. I will soon be the proud owner of a Lortone QT12. This is a good thing, because my crappy plastic barrel sprung a leak yesterday (wore out), 4 days into a polish.

I can't tell you how happy you are going to be with that QT12. It is a beast. You'll need to find course grit in bulk, whatever your flavor. I've been finishing up a box of 47/70 and then I'm on to a 50 lb box of Sic30. Clean outs every 3-5 days and it flat gets stage one done. I use that, a 33b for odd lots of softer rocks or cabs, and the Lot O. Just enough that you can handle everything easily and still get turnaround every month.

I will have to find a Canada supplier who sells in bulk, at a reasonable price and keep the beast fed. I am finding that supplies are hard to find and a bit expensive when compared to the USA. Otherwise, I will make a cross border shopping trip soon. I guess now I have tell my wife that I need a Lot O. I wonder if I do that before or after the flat lap? LOL

A barely used Lortone 3A come up on Kijji today with supplies for $50 CDN, so I bought that one too. I have been watching alerts for most of the year and two days after I order a new machine, a decent used one comes up. Figures. LOL
