Hey those are very cool! Think they are more of a pisolite ( fish egg stone) or maybe stromatolite nature. The pisolites are little sedimentary concretions that build up in layers around a core of some sort which may be a fossil. Stromatolites are stony algae fossils that also build up in layers around a core or on a reef or even around wood or other organics that form a foundation for the algae. Both forms may be found as calcite based stone or as silica replacements that are agate hard. You can look both of those up on line for more info....Mel

I'll throw in my two cents. I think I read that gazingm42 is in Utah. I believe this is birdseye marble. Another form of this rock is also found near Yuba Reservoir. This isn't true marble. As Sabre52 mentioned it is stromatolitic in nature with algae forming around a nucleus. Some of the organic nuclear material has been replaced by crystals. This material is in lots of buildings including the Lincoln Memorial.

Yes I am in Utah. I did not get this near birdeyes, UT but close to the Yuba lake area of I-15. I don't think it the marble but more of the Algae Forming type fossil.
