www.alpinegems.org/Alpine Gems, operated by Laurie Perry, is upgrading their business. Fortunately Larry Zajac, a member of SURC, is working on the new construction and asked if the club could visit. They graciously accepted us! Perhaps 50 cars bearing club members descended on the property on Meadowlark Lane near Summit. In the safety meeting before hounding began, they explained the Lamoreaux family was in the sheep business. That was destroyed by the great depression. They became miners to survive and the property is now surrounded by rocks hauled in from many famous Utah sources. At present, they ship carving alabaster all over the world. After the safety meeting hounding began ! We were allowed in the building where Carving Alabaster is boxed and shipped all over the world. The big red rocks are mostly from Holt Canyon. Smiling bucket-fulls were had by all ! Thanks Alpine Gems !

Making a living with rocks. What a life.
That is some beautiful country Dave. An active bunch of rock hunter/lovers. Does not get better.

Great pics 1dave - forgive my ignorance but what are the buckets being filled with in these two photos? Agate, alabaster, obsidian. Some Dugway geodes, and I think a few new members found adorable leaverite.
