So I been working on a flat lap for some time as time permits. But getting serious as I have several Algae balls I want to fool around with.
So I made a table top that housed the motor underside of it. Using a 1/2 " arbor with 2 set screws I have the threaded shaft coming upward. Placed a oil pan with glued pvc 2" ring in the center, to prevent water coming down in the center. I have 2 nuts underside the sanding pad. I purchase a 8" aluminum plate. Just for a test I installed it on the arbor and placed the top nut.
The issue just turning the power on tighten the nut so hard it was very difficult to remove. Is there another idea or design to considered since I can not get to the nuts underside because of the pvc ring.

I think I figured out a solution. My motor shaft had more room than I thought. I was able to move the arbor up about 1 inches. So this brings the bottom nut above the height of the pvc water retainer. With a modification with a old 3/4 wrench I was able to get underside of the sanding plate.

Here a new pic of the flat lap with a trip bucket. I need to wrap a twist of wire around the tube to give it more control and support of its location.
