Hi. I just stumbled on this art of polishing stone by pure chance and I'm here to gain knowledge on how to go about it. I don't have a tumbler but I plan to make one using a motor from a fan. I'm also looking forward to making friends from all over the world.

Welcome to the forum. A lot of information you'll want to read in the 'homemade equipment' section.

Hi and welcome. You may find fan motors don't have the required torque ... depending on the motor of course.

Hello, and welcome from Oregon, U.S.A. I have a small tumbler [825ml capacity barrel] that is powered by a 2.1 Amp at 120 volt fan motor, works great. I did mfg. a fan out of sheet metal and attached it to the drive pulley to cool the motor, as most fan motors here are not self cooled with an internal fan.

Welcome. During a wonderful trip to Kenya, I encountered pieces of obsidian the size of trucks alongside a highway construction project near Mt. Kenya. I enjoyed the people, wildlife, and natural vistas, but alas did not have much opportunity to closely examine the rocks.

Greetings and felicitations from Southern California. You are probably looking for a more heavy duty motor than a fan. A washing machine or dryer may work out better for you. Lots of cool rocks in Africa so you hopefully will have access to all kinds of great material.
