Just thought I would introduce myself after lurking for 9 to 10 months. Have been into rocks for the last 40 years. Two saws, 3 tumblers, two re-built 2-wheel arbors with a 3rd one waiting patiently to be put together. I have mainly collected in the Big Bend of Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and Arkansas. Have done the Quartz Dig contest in Mt Ida Ark about 8 times.
I was recently given the opportunity to spend a lot more time with my hobby having been sent home after 43 years with the same company. Along with that we just put my youngest into college so as an empty nester my wife is always looking for something to keep me out of her hair. Have really enjoyed reading a lot of the posts and found them informative and fun. Thanks to whoever for the"increased slurry in tumblers" idea and the Mineral Oil contact, ordered 5 gallons and it is much better than what I was using. I am taking a lot more time to sort my tumble loads and take a lot more time on the 1st stage.
If anyone has a suggestion for a good replacement motor for an old Lortone FL20 Vibrating Lap I would appreciate it. A lot the of the new motors are not built that well, mostly with cheap sleeve bearings which will fail under the continous vibration.
Thanks
Henry
