My love for rocks, stones, and sparklies is stronger than I have for most humans. I've been doing this on my own and I have never belonged to any group, forum, or whatever. I am here because I am tired of searching the same places and finding the same earthly beauties. I do not have a tumbler and I don't have any fancy shmancy equipment, but lord knows I want them. I am hoping to learn from those who have more knowledge than I do and to share with you all about my adventures in backwoods rockhounding in Alaska. I've had some pretty awesome adventures and found many beautiful and cool earthly treasures.

Welcome from Virginia. We have another member from Alaska who is pretty active. glennz01 maybe y'all can compare notes. Yep i'm in the valley. Have you thought about joining any of the local rock clubs? The Mat-su rock and mineral club is a great way to learn about areas. I lead a few trips. Most great areas to fond the better quality stuff you need a very good atv for but there are a few places that you can go without one and find decent stuff. I'm presuming you've been on the Matanuska River before? As for rock equipment, in the close future when I get a house, I plan to open my lapidary shop to the club, I have 20 pieces of lapidary equipment and counting.
