My young family and I started picking up rocks a year ago. I found it more enjoyable than trying to get them to go on a hike with me. I was always making comments like "keep coming", "lets go", "a little bit farther", and "almost there". With rock hounding we all go at a slow pace and everyone picks up what they like. Needless to say we have developed a collection of rocks at our home so the dilemma arose what do we do with them now. Well in our outings we found a couple of shed antlers which we sold and used the money to buy a tumbler. We just finished our first batch of rocks and I think we are hooked even though I question why I don't just go antler hunting it is a lot more profitable. Collecting rocks I 'm afraid is going to be a money pit. I now want a big rock saw, a trim saw, a flat lap and a vibratory tumbler to add to my rock tools. I am even watching rock hounding video's on You tube I mean who does that. I think I have a problem but I justify it by saying to myself that there is a lot bigger problems a bloke could have instead of thinking about rocks all the time. Anyways I have been lurking on this sight for a couple of weeks and finally decided to join. I have learned a lot from this sight but still have a lot to learn. Cheers

Welcome to the forum. The good news is that there is so much more you can do with rocks than antlers.

You are not from Wyoming. You said "bloke" Kidding aside, welcome to RTH from another wyo bloke. Be assured, you are not the only one afflicted with i-need-more-equipment-itis. The good news is that this community can help you choose the right equipment, and maybe even inspire you to build some tools of your own.

there is a lot bigger problems a bloke could have instead of thinking about rocks all the time. Just the attitude to have. If the spouse agrees you have it made!

I have lived here for the past 7 years and really really love it but I grew up in Utah.

Hello welcome from Colorado,I'm not sure who said it but be careful, when you collect them rocks it's amazing what starts popping up around the house , a tumbler is just a gateway machine that opens the doors for bigger and badder machines that you will learn to abuse, oops I better stop, by the way search craigslist for saws or anything rock related the machines I found where listed under "rock cutting and polishing equipment"? Happy hunting!

welcome to the forum and that's a great way to get the kids out into nature! Love it! And I agree with you that this addiction ... rather HOBBY (excuse me, I relapsed), is a definite money pit. And a fun one at that.
