Wasn't quite sure where to put this, but it involves cabs, so here ya go.
I receive emails from different sources with info on cabbing stones, setting cabs, and making jewelry in general. Thought I'd share a couple of them with you here. These are both from Jewelry Making Daily.
The first one is about dopping stones to create your cab.
Making Gemstone Jewelry: 9 Expert Dopping Tips and Advice for Stone Cutting
For anyone that would prefer not to click a link, here is the URL, so you can cut and paste it:
view.e.jewelrymakingdaily.com/?qs=42c8ce9db5f7acbf4c34f3c238234088b3fe019ed7d9674ced2dcf503ea310b797d6e10fd78bb0ab25d5f4c7198646c79a48f7ad961f3f2d5fdbc48eb70df46d234d04415c230d6af1427a90b23be516
The second link will get you tips on what to look for when you purchase a pre-made cab to set.
Cabochon Setting: 6 Things You Need to Know if You Make Cabochon Jewelry
Non - link: view.e.jewelrymakingdaily.com/?qs=1c7c4147adfe367edd9f0c332b4a2e676b79c46499897f0bb7f63394d33c34bb85aa50fb6299d9cbd6dfdabbdcba462cb615e6ebbc3ceaecae14441ad3dd4b5f64651d24752495de7ad73ed6b8144068
Actually, still comes up as a link. Well, you can still just select and paste it works either way.
I make my own cabs, but there is a lot of stuff here that I never even considered! Since I only wire-wrap, cabs and girdles are not as critical as for bezel set stones.
If you like these ideas, you can subscribe to their emailed newsletter. Not all of them are of interest to me (making chainmaile, cuff bracelets, beading, etc), but I still take a look at them. If it is not your cup of tea, you can always unsubscribe. They have also had tips on soldering, which could be most helpful for folks.
I don't think posting links to their web version of the emails should constitute a problem. It is a free service, and may possibly send more customers their way! I will remove the post if anybody takes issue with it.
If I see any thing else of interest down the pike, I'll post the links here. Jean
