I have searched unsuccessfully to see if anyone else has had this issue. The guide on the tumbler for the barrel is a stupid piece of tin that tends to bend or twist. More important, it is like a knife in the knurled nut on the barrel. It seems to me that there has to be a better solution, but I have not yet found one and wonder if others experience is the same. In fact, I don't really see the need for the guide as the barrel rotates just fine without moving sideways. Any ideas?

Sounds like something is out of adjustment. The guide should not be cutting into the nut. The aluminum guide should only be touching the inside edges of the nut groove and unless there are burrs or rough edges in the aluminum it should be fine. If you really don't like it you could always rig up a simple wheel on a rod that serves the same purpose.

I would tell you that I have the same issue on my QT12. the groove that was in the cap has probably doubled in size, and I have cleaned up the pile of plastic shavings a number of times. I figured it was a consumable item, and eventually I would just replace it.

I have a QT66 which is the same base with two, six pound barrels. I have no problems like that on my machine.

I've fixed a couple of these by taking the guide off and mounting a small wheel on the hole that mounts the guide. I made the wheels, but think screen door or shower door rollers could easily be adapted. Both people I did this for said all of them should have been made that way.

I use a bit of white grease in the Grove. No problem.

I think I figured out the immediate problem. I tend to lift the barrel at an angel an bend the aluminum guide. I think I will McGiver something else. thanks for the input.

I would tell you that in looking at mine, I believe it is caused by something being out of balance and the barrel pulling to the opposite side, thus bending the piece of tin and changing its profile. With a wider profile, it rubs the edges of the groove and mills it out wider. I would guess to some degree that is because I over-load my barrel more often than not.
