I usually go the first or second of January, then come back the first day of the Pow Wow. Living 4+ hours away in San Diego's East County makes it a day trip for us.
Since I spent 10 days rock hunting in Texas on the ranches, I might have a tiny budget crunch....LOL. Last year my work schedule prevented me from going back for the Pow Wow and I know I missed out on some great rock. I think Desert Gardens is the best place to find reasonably priced quality material while the pow Wow has more variety and quantity of great material but is often at full retail, or at least that's the starting price.
I'll get there at least once. Hope to see some of you there!!!

LOL Tommy. Yep, there are a few good spots west of town. Definitely want to stay away from the rif raff on the east of town...lol. (oh, did i say that out loud? my bad..LOL) If you want clothing optional the Magic Circle is a nice boondocking area. I usually boondock at La Posa West or La Posa South and get a permit for the season which is $180 for all winter until April. If you want to stay shorter time they have two week permits too. If you stay in any of the BLM areas you can use the trash, water, and dump for free when you have the permit. There are places to stay that are free. Jean usually stays in Roadrunner area that is SW of town and has a 14 day stay limit but no charge. Free ... and fully clothed ... sound good and appropriate haha. Our plans aren't carved in stone yet but we'll probably only be staying for an extended weekend again. oh come on ! no dippin skinny ? heard there is a great nude hot spring out there somewere lol!!

Well, if you can't find a place to skinny dip, you can always go hang out with the old guy in the thong who has the store on the main drag thru town. Just bring a spray bottle...

Did you know the old guy Paul Winer with the bookstore was a famous jazz boggy woggy piano player b4 moving to Q? I have seen hom.performance lsst year. He moved because of his baby daughters health and lung problems that the desert air helped in the old days. Her name was Celia and the garden that commemorates her is Celia's Rainbow Garden. Its the largest no entry charge aboretum garden in the world. It's all volunteer cleanup and asrablisment of memorials to her and also to others! It's got water lines etc and has piles of valuable gemstone rough, polished slabs, faced specimens etc on displays and memorials and they don't get stolen!!! It'S acres and acres. You should go, it's awesome!
