I did some sorting today of some slabs that I plan to put on Ebay. I took pics of course, but also did a video to accompany the auctions. In the video I showed the individual slabs, one at a time and told the truth about what was good and what may not be as great as other people try to represent their stuff as.Do you think that the buyers will appreciate the video that tells them the truth and lets them see the slabs in 360?

Transparency is never a bad idea, especially when selling online! I know I'd appreciate it if I were in the market for slabs.

Open-ness and clarity. If I'm buying slabs / rocks, I don't want things hiding. I'd like to see it from a good angle and the bad: all angles in fact. I wouldn't be hammering home the weaknesses and detriments, but just make sure that they're visible and if you know how it is to work, then add that. The buyer will appreciate you know something of the rock rather than just someone (else) selling a slab, knowing nothing.

I would love to see both the good and bad. If I was buying, I would be very confident buying from someone honest enough to show the flaws. Usually, there is doubt in my mind when buying from eBay that I might be getting ripped off. I wouldn't have that fear if I was told up front about any negatives.

I have Seen sellers on eBay using Photoshop or paint to mark up the pitchs and "flaws" on slabs. I think it makes a trusthwurthy (sorry for my spelling)seller that i would by from any time.

I'm with the majority here too. They wouldn't have to watch the video, but it's there if they want to.
Another point to consider (playing devil's advocate here) - if for some odd reason they stage a complaint saying you have misrepresented the item, you have proof right on the listing.

I agree, great idea. As a person who has ordered lots of rough on line and received something that wasn't what I was expecting, anything that gives the buyer a better idea of what they are buying is a good thing for all parties involved.

My opinion.
Awesome concept. A little 'info-commercial'. Love it.
But
One video per slab. Make it 20-30 seconds.
8 minutes?
I'm onto the next listing at about 1 minute.
Great concept, adjust presentation just a little and you have a world class offering, that in my opinion, will net you more per slab than the next 20 sellers.
Nice job Mark!!

Hopefully you're looking for honest opinions on both sides - my honest opinion is that the extra work won't generate enough of a payoff to justify it. I think where slab sellers go wrong (often intentionally) is a lack of picture evidence resulting in neglecting to show condition and thickness. When I'm contemplating buying a slab I already know 60% of the information I need such as material accuracy, quality/pattern/potential cabs etc. At that point I will walk away if the seller has not answered my 40% questions ... size, thickness, and condition. A few lines of text and a couple of extra pictures - hopefully showing the slab dry and at an angle - is all I need and a lot less work on you than a narrated video.
Just my two pence.

Mark I mean a great pic of a average slab on ebay or whatever can deceive you! Conversely a very good one or a cab with a bad pic has problems too!
