this was in an old collection I bought nearly 20 years ago and have always wondered where it actually came from. The old Gentleman told me it was a "Volcano Agate" and if memory serves, he said it was from Patagonia. I have never found any info on such an Agate, or seen anything quite like it. The bright Orange contrasting with the Black in this stone is unreal! It is about fist size and incredibly heavy for it's size. Did I hit the Agate Jackpot? Any info or input is appreciated.

Beautiful agate! Does have a sort of Condor agate look to it....Mel I thought perhaps it was a Condor, but I have looked at hundreds of pics on the internet and can't see one anything like this. If it is a Condor, it is a rarity and maybe worth big bucks to a collector? Edit: Has anyone even heard of "Volcano Agate"? The outside skin is pretty unusual and unlike any I have seen

Skin looks like some of the condors I have. One condor characteristic you often see is the bands change colors along their length rather than being one consistent color. Your example does that. Actually oranges, yellows and blacks are pretty common condor colors, though I've not cut condors with much in the way of tubes or eyes. Those have been more common in northern Mexico agates I've cut. Never heard of volcano agates, though there is an Argentinian variety of agate known as " crater agate" Those I've seen look much different than your example though....Mel

I think I see fossils on the outside skin. Is that possible?

I think I see fossils on the outside skin. Is that possible? I've examined it pretty closely several times, but saw no fossils. The minnow looking thing top center is more of the tan colored material in a shallow void in the stone. The seashell looking impressions center right appear to be flow lines almost like this was a molten blob when it formed sort of like obsidian. It's a head scratcher for me, but Mel may have it pegged. All I know is that I love the thing and am fascinated by it. The colors in the pic are not enhanced in any way, but may be a bit lighter than in real life as the pic was taken with my cell phone. The thing probably belongs in a museum somewhere

He likely meant volcanic. It is a piranha agate - Brazil .
