I have a friend that found this stone in Utah and thought ide like it and I do jus not sure what it is reminds me of selenite please help size of stone is 2" by 2" by 2" scratches easily with knife flic.kr/p/PRBkdS

Yes, looks like selenite the clear version of gypsum.

It can have a beautiful cats eye effect and a very nice satiny shine when when properly polished though. (Don't ask me how to polish it, I only succeeded in accidentally scratching my already polished piece.)

It can have a beautiful cats eye effect and a very nice satiny shine when when properly polished though. (Don't ask me how to polish it, I only succeeded in accidentally scratching my already polished piece.) I like polishing pieces of the red selenite I mine. Not hard to do. Cab it pretty much like any other rock except be really light on the first wheels then do most of the shaping on the third wheel. And keep rounding off the edges as you go so you do not catch a wheel and split the stone. After finishing up the last wheel then buff with Zam.

Selenite is the clear version of gypsum. The opaque and/or fibrous forms of gypsum are called satin spar.
