Grit inside or out?
If inside, run a coarse grit load of rocks. Bet that takes the dried grit off.
Outside. hmmm... Take then to a spray wand type car wash maybe? (If you don't have a pressure washer at home) Sandpaper? Wire brush, like your outdoor grill brush?

I bought a used QT 66 awhile back , one barrel had a bunch of dried crap in it . I just loaded it with rough rock and a little water , ran for maybe an hour and it came out fairly clean . If you are just going to use them for roughing , not much of a problem .

Never took Pictures Before and after. Well i think The drums were wrapped in duck tape or something and The grit was stuck to it. I plaeed the entire drums in My parts washer and I use ZEP Citrus cleaner straight . In less than an Hour . I noticed It devolving. They are currently in the washer now and will keey overnight. This stuff takes off everything sal

If that does not work, perhaps try acetone to remove the glue.
