Man growing old sucks. Can't remember sh*t. I just got in from my shop and remembered I forgot to turn on the shop heater when this last blue norther came in. All the friggin pipes are frozen! Wish me luck. I've got the place defrosting now and hope I've not ruptured water pipes all over the shop. Won't know till the water starts to flow again but that could have been an expensive screw up. Dang! Being from Commiefornia, I just can't get used to the dang cold winter days here in Texas. I thought it were gonna be a lot warmer here as we are way further south now but nope, now and then it gets colder than Hell. Screw Al Gore and his dang global warming anyway..Mel

Hope nothing burst! Did you turn off the water supply to the shop until you know?

Scott, highest temp for the last couple of days was about 25. Windchill yesterday had it down to single digits. 15 degrees this AM. That first night dropped 40+ degrees overnight. Texas weather is nothing if not weird. I did get the shop warmed back up to about 40 by introducing a second space heater. Surprisingly, when the pipes thawed I could not detect any leaks or ruptures Gonna be cold again tonight so I left the faucets running real slow and both heaters going. Think I'll shop for a larger heater and hook it to one of those thermostat switches like I use in my well house. That way, if I'm a dumbass like yesterday and forget to turn it on, the switch will do it for me as soon as temps hit freezing. Looks like I may have got lucky this time. No sense pushing the envelope *L*....Mel

We've been in the teens and twenties mostly since pretty much Christmas. We don't have plumbing in our shop, and fortunately Elizabeth thinks about stuff like ice so she poured out the water jugs and the genie trays. I got a couple ceramic panel heaters at a garage sale last summer, only like 2A each and they work good.

Stay outside for shorter times and wear lots of layers . Problem I have is when I am dressed to stay warm and try to do anything , I get all sweated up and really get cold . Its sort of nice to have 4 seasons , just wish the frozen season only lasted a week . But it is still better than farther north .

A well written list of things to winterize is used on this farm. NOTHING left to memory. young minds or old minds. Just came up from the basement. Stoked the wood stove. 14F cold for Atlanta. Got a 1950 Atlanta Stove. Removed the electric fan and shroud.

I was down in Ft Benning for basic training in 83 , got an inch of snow and every one kinda went into panic mode . In Kentucky the following year they got about 3" one time , shut the whole base down for 2 days .
