My neighbor had a couple young girls visiting and their mom wanted something me to make them something different. I didn't have much time to make them anything so I had cut a couple of jack pine cones in half and sprayed them with laquer awhile back. I drilled a hole in them, made a bail out of copper wire and epoxied the bail in. Here is the end result. I got the idea after seeing petrified pine cones sawn in half from Argentina.

Totally cool , great idea . Were those green or dry when you cut them ? Or are jacks the ones that fall and stay closed til they get damp enough to pop ?

They're cool. Imagine if they were fossil - they'd be awesome!

Jack pine cones are opened by fire and are pretty dry even on the tree. If anyone needs any to play with let me know. I tried to cut them the round way but they fall apart, maybe glue them?

I used to work in the decorative landscape industry and we bagged Ponderosa Pine bark in our NM location. I found an old creek bed between Cuba NM and Farmington that had petrified tree bark you couldn't tell the difference from the material we were bagging. Didn't think about petrified pine cones until I seen them at a show. I wonder now if there are any from the usa?

Those are insanely cool! Who would have thought that they would make such a good pendant? Good for you for thinking outside the box!

Those are pretty cool. A vendor at the last rock show I did was using walnut slices as pendants. She filled the voids in the slice with epoxy resin that had opal chips mixed in. They were a big hit and she actually sold all she brought. Thinking outside the box pays off.

Yep you never know what someone will like. Seen a pendant one time made out of Armadillo shell...guess who has a shell on the shelf calling his name. Thanks to all who liked this.

Those are really cool inside. Could you slice slabs from the cone in the same direction or will it fall apart?
