a pressure washer, but smaller. Easier to use on something like a rock.
I want something that can deliver a (much) higher water pressure than a garden hose nozzle but not as big as a pressure washer with which one washes things more than an arm's length away. A pressure washer tends to be more power than what I am looking for, and tough to use washing something that it can just blast away from you.
Want to use it for closer in work and hopefully on something I can hold in my hand while holding the tool/device with the other hand. Don't care if such use gets me wet.
Is there such a critter? Probably not designed to be used as I intend to, but I'll figure out how to do so safely. What am I looking for?
Thanks for suggestions.

They make water hose nozzles that are not your common garden nozzle.....It's tapered down to a smaller size and really puts the pressure out!!!! My friend Jack has one and he says it works great!!

Thanks Mike. I've seen commercials for "super nozzles" and the like, but looking at reviews on line, these products seem to fall far below the claims made - go figure. Gotta be a decent nozzle out there with a small venturi tip to greatly increase the water pressure. One would think ...
There has to be something along the lines of what I'm looking for, just haven't figured out the right search words to find it - yet. ] Thinking that one of our mad scientists here may have a Been There, Done That recommendation.

You want what is known as a "needle gun". It's commonly used in the textile industry for stain- removal, but mineral collectors have adopted it for cleaning less-than fragile mineral specimens. Search "textile cleaning spray gun" and you'll get all kinds of hits. I have one, an Arrow brand, and I love it. Cleans polish from nooks and crannies, Safety warning- must protect eyes and face from flying debris, DON"T "squirt" your skin, if you do, you'll understand the word DON"T much better. Also, do be meticulous about the distilled water use and completely drying out the insides to avoid almost certain clogging of needle valve. Here's a pic-

Here's a pic- that gun is great at very close range. after about 2 feet it has little power left. they build up all the safety hype to make it seem more powerful than it really is. we have one at class and they wont let anyone iuse it for safety reasons. but I snuck a use and tested it. cant even feel the spray at 3'

Okay, now we are on the right track! Concerned about the small (spot) area coverage and the little water bottle as the water supply. Will research this further, thanks unclesoska ! I like that! Now is there such a critter that gives that kinda pressure yet hooks up to a hose for longer term use (than a water bottle) and maybe a bit bigger spray area? Thinking that if I could get something closer to a silver dollar sized high pressure spray cone that would do what I need. A tiny target area like I imagine the above water gun is would take me forever and a day. Looking to clean dirt out of nooks & crannies & voids but on rather large rocks. A hose & nozzle just isn't cutting it and, like I said, a pressure washer is just too awkward to get in the tight spots I want to clean.

I used to use one of these back in my Furniture Repair days to clean upholstered furniture that got soiled in transit. They have incredible pressure for their size. With internet access the price has come down significantly from what they cost twenty-plus years ago. And now lots of folks are using them for cleaning minerals specimens these days. Larry C.

whatcha trying to clean off? The corals that I just brought home. Some have dirt in 'em that has probably been in there for decades. A hose ain't cutting it and the pressure washer would have me chasing them around the driveway and can't get in the tight spots I wanna get to.

The sprayer above is for cleaning square inches. Stream is maybe 0.005" diameter.

Harbor Freight sells an electric pressure washer that hooks to the garden hose. Not as powerful as the gas engine powered ones but more so than faucet pressure. www.harborfreight.com/1650-psi-125-gpm-electric-pressure-washer-69488.htmlLarry C.

That would be the ideal tool Larry for many uses, but I just have too much to clean to work with such a small spray area.
Pressure washer is the tool needed, I just want more control than a pressure washer allows. Maybe there isn't such a thing as what I am looking for. Figured it was worth asking tho.

Looked at electric washers like this at Home Depot Still has that long wand and too cumbersome for close in work. Appreciate all suggestions and comments so far. On the right track!

Couldn't you just use some sort of clamp to keep the coral in place? The needle gun WILL do the job, but it takes a patient mind and hand. As to over-hype in advertising, it REALLY HURTS when sprayed on skin, that's all I can say. Testify!

A couple years ago at work we used a pressure washer that was hooked up stationary, it was a 4 ft x 7ft sheet of plexi glass and the pressure nozzle was in the center spraying away from the operator that stood behind the plexi glass, there was 2 arm holes that you put your arms through, Sort of like a sandblasting cabinet, Then you wore heavy rubber gloves and held the part you wanted to wash in front of the nozzle , with the gloves your hands are protected, And we were working with 1000 psi pressure, Worked fantastic for washing the parts we were cleaning, that way we held the parts and didn't have to worry about them being pushed all over from the water pressure

Cap'n, have you considered making your own sprayer? I don't know for certain, but I'd be willing to bet you could get a brass fitting that would have garden hose threads on 1 end, and the other threaded to accept a power washer nozzle. You can buy different degree angle of spray nozzles to fit your need.

All I have to add is Lowes does sell a little cone shaped nozzle of a couple bucks. Hooked on a garden hose we can wash off the patio very well. It's cheap and if it works, you won and if not...so your out 2 bucks.
